Johnville F.C. (Dublin)
Johnville F.C. was an Irish association football club based in Dublin and active during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The club had a tradition of being a nursery club for both Shamrock Rovers and Shelbourne. Jem Kennedy, the namesake of the SFAI Kennedy Cup, was devoted to Johnville FC, he trained and scouted many notable players. The League of Ireland XI, more recently referred to as the ''Airtricity League XI'' for sponsorship reasons, is the representative team of the League of Ireland, the national association football league of the Republic of Ireland. For much of its history, the League of Ireland XI has effectively acted as a reserve or B team to the senior Republic of Ireland national team, providing international representative honours to home-based players. In fact it has played considerably more games than the actual Republic of Ireland B national football team. In addition to playing regular games against similar representative teams, such as the Irish League XI, the Scottish Football League XI and the Football League XI, the League of Ireland XI has also played in prestige friendlies against the full national teams of both Argentina and Brazil. FAI Youth Cup
The FAI Youth Cup, also known as the FAI Umbro Youth Challenge Cup, is a cup competition organised by the FAI for youth association football clubs and teams in the Republic of Ireland. The inaugural winners were Greenmount Rangers. The competition's most successful club has been Home Farm who have won the cup eleven times. They have also been finalists on a further seven occasions. In 1964–65 a Home Farm A team, featuring Terry Conroy and Billy Newman, played a Home Farm B team in the final at Tolka Park. Paddy Kennedy (association Footballer)
Patrick Anthony Kennedy (9 October 1934 – 18 March 2007) was an Irish footballer who played as a left-back for various clubs in the 1950s. As one of the Busby Babes, he was part of the Manchester United side that won the FA Youth Cup in 1953. Football career Kennedy was born in Dublin, in the Irish Republic and moved to England to join Manchester United as a 15-year-old. Awarded his professional contract in February 1953, Kennedy played alongside the likes of Duncan Edwards, Eddie Colman, David Pegg and Liam Whelan in United's FA Youth Cup winning side of 1953, when they defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers, 9–3 on aggregate. Kennedy only made one first-team appearance for United, also against Wolves, in a 4–2 defeat on 2 October 1954. He spent two further seasons in the reserves before a transfer to Blackburn Rovers in August 1956. Mickey Burke (footballer)
Mickey Burke (died 25 February 1993) is an Irish former association football, footballer who played as a right full. Born in Dublin, the son of John Burke (footballer, fl. 1927–35), John Burke (footballer), Burke joined Shamrock Rovers in 1951 from Johnville F.C. (Dublin), Johnville with Gerry Mackey and was part of the team popularly known as Coad's Colts that enjoyed many memorable days during the 1950s. He played in Rovers' two games against Manchester United in the European Champion Clubs' Cup in 1957. A schoolboy international he was also played twelve times for the League of Ireland XI while at Glenmalure Park. Burke signed for Drumcondra F.C. in 1959 but moved to New York City soon after and was there to cheer on the Hoops when they toured in 1961.
