Johnson Switch Building
The Johnson Switch Building is a historic commercial building in 3201 Main Street in Johnson, Arkansas, USA. Built in 1904, it is a single-story structure with a pressed-metal facade designed to resemble brickwork, and a gable roof obscured by a stepped parapet. Named for a nearby railroad switch, it is the oldest surviving commercial building in the small community's downtown area. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. Johnson is a city in Washington County, Arkansas, Washington County, Arkansas, United States. The community is located in the Ozarks, Ozark Mountains and is surrounded by valleys and natural spring (hydrology), springs. A railroad switch (), turnout, or ''set ofpoints () is a mechanical installation enabling railway trains to be guided from one track to another, such as at a railway junction or where a spur or siding branches off. The most common type of switch consists of a pair of linked tapering rails, known as ''points'' (''switch rails'' or ''point blades''), lying between the diverging outer rails (the ''stock rails''). These points can be moved laterally into one of two positions to direct a train coming from the point blades toward the straight path or the diverging path. Johnson House And Mill
The Johnson House and Mill is a group of historically significant structures at 3906 Johnson Mill Boulevard in Johnson, Arkansas, USA. The house is a two-story brick building, fashioned from locally manufactured bricks, and the mill is a large -story wood-frame structure with a gable roof and large waterwheel at one end. The mill was built c. 1865-67 and the house in 1882, by Jacob Q. Johnson, the town's namesake. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The mill building, which operated well into the 20th century, has been converted into a hotel.
