Johnny Rogers (rugby)
John Henry Rogers (1 October 1892 – 26 July 1958) was a Welsh rugby union and professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1900s, 1910s and 1920s. He played club level rugby union (RU) for Bridgend RFC and Cardiff RFC, initially as a wing, i.e. number 11 or 14, and later as a scrum-half (alongside Clem Lewis) and representative level rugby league (RL) for Great Britain, Wales and Other Nationalities, and at club level for Huddersfield and Wakefield Trinity ( Heritage No. 313), as a , or , i.e. number 2 or 5, 6, or 7. Background Johnny Rogers was born in Abergwynfi, Wales, he later moved to Tondu, Wales, he was the landlord of the Plumber's Arms public house, Macaulay Street, Huddersfield, and when he retired he continued to live there for three years until his death, he died aged 65 in Huddersfield, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. The Leeds Rhinos are a professional rugby league club in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The 1913–14 Rugby Football League, Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 19th season of Rugby league, rugby league football. Season summary Salford Red Devils, Salford won the play-off final 5-3 against Huddersfield Giants, Huddersfield to record their first Championship. The Rugby Football League Championship First Division was the top division of rugby league in England between 1895 and 1996, when it was replaced by the Super League. The Salford Red Devils are a professional rugby league club in Salford, Greater Manchester, England, who play in the Super League. Cap (sport)
In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. Fartown Ground
The Fartown Ground or just simply Fartown is a sports ground located in the Huddersfield suburb of Fartown in West Yorkshire, England and is predominantly famous for being the home ground of Huddersfield Rugby League Club from 1878 to 1992. The grounds consisted of a rugby ground, a cricket ground used by Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Bowling greens and a running track as well as a pavilion. It was the scene of many great games, including the Challenge Cup finals of 1908 and 1910, several Challenge Cup semi finals, John Player Cup finals and international matches. Although the stands were all demolished, the pitch, floodlights and bankings where the terraces once stood are still there, Huddersfield RLFC played their last game there on 23 August 1992, up until the mid 2000s the club's junior and reserves sides still played on the pitch at Fartown but the stands were already demolished by then. The Keighley Cougars are a professional rugby league club from Keighley in West Yorkshire, England who compete in League 1, the third tier of English rugby league. Keighley's home ground, Cougar Park has a capacity of 7,800. History Early years The club was formed at a meeting held on 17 October 1876 under the presidency of the Reverend Marriner. A committee was elected and the club was allowed the use of Holmes' field in Lawkholme Lane. The New Zealand national rugby league team (Māori: Tīma rīki motu Aotearoa) has represented New Zealand in rugby league since 1907. Administered by the New Zealand Rugby League, they are commonly known as the Kiwis, after the native bird of that name. The team's colours are black and white, with the dominant colour being black, and the players perform a haka before every match they play as a challenge to their opponents. A test match in rugby league football is a representative match between teams representing members of the Rugby League International Federation. The definition of a test match differs from that of an international match. An international match can be played "between senior/open age or restricted age-level teams from different countries". Recognition Members of the international governing body can make their own recognition of a match as having test status. It is possible for a match to be considered a test by one side but not the other. Matches may also be given test status retrospectively by their governing bodies. A notable instance of a different in opinions of the status of past matches is a consequence of the Super League war. Auckland Domain
The Auckland Domain, also known as Pukekawa / Auckland Domain, is a large park in Auckland, New Zealand. It is the oldest park in the city, and at is one of the largest. Located in the central suburb of Grafton, the park land is the remains of the explosion crater and most of the surrounding tuff ring of the Pukekawa volcano. The park is home to one of Auckland's main tourist attractions, the Auckland War Memorial Museum, which sits prominently on the crater rim (tuff ring). Several sports fields occupy the floor of the crater and the rim opposite the museum hosts the cricket pavilion and Auckland City Hospital.
