Johnny Khamis is an American politician from San Jose, California and was a member of the San Jose City Council, representing District 10. Khamis is a Christian of Palestinian descent. He grew up in San Jose and attended local public schools, graduating from Oak Grove High School. He is a graduate of San Jose State University in Business Management and Communication. He is the former CEO and founder of Western Benefit Solutions, a San Jose-based firm that deals in insurance benefit plan consulting. He was a member of the Republican Party, until changing his registration to ''no party preference'' in protest of the Trump administration family separation policy. City council positions are officially nonpartisan per California law. With his swearing-in on December 31, 2012, he became the first Arab-American to take office for the city of San Jose. 2022 Santa Clara County Board Of Supervisors Election
2022 Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors election was held on November 8, 2022. Two of the five seats on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors were up for election. District 1 was an open seat due to the terming out of Supervisor Mike Wasserman. A nonpartisan blanket primary is a primary election in which all candidates for the same elected office run against each other at once, regardless of the political party. Partisan elections are, on the other hand, segregated by political party. Nonpartisan blanket primaries are slightly different from most other elections systems with two-rounds/runoff, aka "jungle primaries" (such as the (Louisiana primary), in a few ways. The first round of a nonpartisan blanket primary is officially the " primary." Round two is the "general election." Dave Cortese
David Dominic Cortese (born June 3, 1956) is an elected official from San Jose, California. He is currently serving in the California State Senate, representing District 15, which encompasses a majority of Santa Clara County. Before being elected to the California State Senate, Cortese served on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors for 12 years, as a Councilmember and Vice Mayor for the City of San Jose for eight years, and for eight years as a trustee for the East Side Union High School District in San Jose. Cortese ran for mayor of San Jose and won the primary, losing the general election to District 3 councilmember Sam Liccardo. Ann Ravel
Ann Miller Ravel (born April 6, 1949) is an American attorney who was a Democratic Commissioner on the Federal Election Commission (FEC), an independent regulatory agency created by Congress to administer and enforce campaign finance law. Ravel was appointed by President Obama on June 21, 2013, and, after unanimous confirmation by the United States Senate, took office on October 25, 2013. She was Chair of the Commission for 2015, and Vice Chair in 2014. Ravel resigned from the commission on February 19, 2017, effective March 1, 2017. Nora Campos
Nora Campos (born June 15, 1965) is an American politician from California. Campos formerly served as a California State Assemblymember and was the President pro tempore during her tenure. In 2020, she was unsuccessful in her campaign for the California's 15th State Senate district. She served on the San Jose City Council representing District 5 (2001-2010).
