Sir John Wrottesley, 4th Baronet
Sir John Wrottesley, 4th Baronet (c.1682–1726), of Wrottesley Hall, Tettenhall, Staffordshire, was a Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1708 to 1710. Wrottesley was the second, but eldest surviving son of Sir Walter Wrottesley, 3rd Baronet of Wrottesley Hall and his first wife. Eleanor Archer, daughter of Sir John Archer of Coppersale, Essex. He was educated at Rugby School in 1699 and was admitted at Trinity College, Cambridge on 22 April 1700. He married Frances Grey, daughter of Hon. John Grey on 15 January 1704. At the 1708 British general election, Wrottesley was returned as Tory Member of Parliament for Staffordshire. He made little impression, but voted against the impeachment of Dr Sacheverell in 1710. He did not stand at the 1710 British general election. In 1712, Wrottesley succeeded his father in the baronetcy. He died in 1726 and was buried at Tettenhall on 1 November 1726. Staffordshire was a county constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of England then of the Parliament of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800 and of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1832. It was represented by two Members of Parliament until 1832. History Boundaries and franchise The constituency, which first returned members to Parliament in 1290, consisted of the historic county of Staffordshire, excluding the city of Lichfield which had the status of a county in itself after 1556. Sir John Wrottesley, 8th Baronet
Sir John Wrottesley, 8th Baronet (22 December 1744 – 23 April 1787), of Wrottesley Hall in Staffordshire, was a British army officer and politician who was a Member of the British House of Commons from 1768 to 1787. Background and early life Wrottesley was the eldest son of the Reverend Sir Richard Wrottesley, 7th Baronet, Dean of Worcester, and Mary, the daughter of John Leveson-Gower, 1st Earl Gower. This grandfather was head of the most powerful Whig political dynasty in Staffordshire, based at Trentham Hall: the Leveson-Gowers controlled a number of seats in the unreformed House of Commons. In 1754, Gower died and was succeeded by Wrottesley's uncle, Granville Leveson-Gower. Wrottesley determined on an army career, being commissioned as ensign of the 2nd Foot Guards during 1761 and transferring as captain of the 85th Foot the next year. John Wrottesley, 1st Baron Wrottesley
John Wrottesley, 1st Baron Wrottesley (4 October 1771 – 16 March 1841), known as Sir John Wrottesley, 9th Baronet, from 1787 to 1838, was a British soldier and Member of Parliament. Wrottesley was the son of Sir John Wrottesley, 8th Baronet. He served in the British Army and achieved the rank of major general. He was also appointed as Lieutenant-Colonel Commandant of the Western Regiment of Staffordshire Local Militia in 1809. Wrottesley was also a Member of Parliament for Lichfield from 1799 to 1806, for Staffordshire from 1823 to 1832, and for Staffordshire South from 1832 to 1837. On 11 July 1838, he was ennobled as Baron Wrottesley, of Wrottesley in the County of Stafford. Lord Wrottesley married firstly Lady Caroline Bennet, daughter of Charles Bennet, 4th Earl of Tankerville, in 1795.
