John Wise (August 15, 1652 – April 8, 1725) was a Congregational church, Congregationalist reverend and political leader in Massachusetts during the Colonial America, American colonial period. John Wise (February 24, 1808 – September 28, 1879) was a pioneer in the field of ballooning. He made over 400 flights during his lifetime and was responsible for several innovations in balloon design. His balloon, ''The Jupiter'' carried 123 letters to make the first official airmail delivery run for the US Post Office in 1859. Early career John Wise was born on February 24, 1808, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States, to William and Mary Trey Weiss who anglicized his surname to Wise. He was the fourth of eight children. He worked as an apprentice cabinetmaker from the time he was 16; after the age of 21 he briefly became a piano maker. John Richard de Capel Wise (1831–1 April 1890) was a writer and natural historian. Although he wrote on William Shakespeare, Shakespeare and other subjects, his most successful work was his 1862 book ''The New Forest: its History and its Scenery'', which describes the scenery, the natural history, the antiquities, and the dialect of the New Forest, in Hampshire, England. Life Wise was born in 1831, and was the eldest son of John Robert Wise, (a former British consul-general in Sweden) and his wife Jane. John Sergeant Wise
John Sergeant Wise (December 27, 1846 – May 12, 1913) was an American author, lawyer, and politician in Virginia. He was the son of Henry Alexander Wise, a Governor of Virginia, and Sarah Sergeant. Early life John was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1846, while his father was U.S. Minister to the Empire of Brazil. He lived as a youth with his father and others at Rolleston, their plantation on the Elizabeth River (Virginia), Elizabeth River outside Norfolk, Virginia. His father served as a US Congressman before being elected as Governor of Virginia in 1856. After being privately tutored as a youth, Wise attended Virginia Military Institute. Still a student when the American Civil War began, Wise served with the VMI Corps of Cadets at the Battle of New Market. Ordered to guard the Cadets' baggage train, he defied those orders to stay there, and took part in the Cadets' famous charge. John Henry Wise
John Henry Wise (July 19, 1868 – August 12, 1937) was a Native Hawaiian politician, businessman, religious leader, and educator of Hawaii. In his youth, he became the first Native Hawaiian to play college football with the Oberlin Yeomen football team while he attended theology school at Oberlin College. During his political career in the Hawaii Territorial Legislature, he helped pass the Hawaiian Homelands Act of 1921. In later life, he served as an instructor of Hawaiian language at the Kamehameha Schools and the University of Hawaii. Sir John Humphrey Wise, KCMG, CBE (11 March 1890 – 21 October 1984) was a British colonial administrator. A member of the Indian Civil Service, he spent almost his entire career in British Burma, where he held key positions. The son of William Wise, of Ashbourne, Derbyshire, and St Servan, France, John Wise was educated at Christ's Hospital and University College, Oxford. Joining the Indian Civil Service in 1914 and went out to Burma. Shortly after, the First World War began, and Wise joined the Indian Army Reserve of Officers. He saw service with the 92nd Punjabis in India, Mesopotamia, Egypt and Palestine, and was mentioned in despatches several times.
