John Allen Wilcox
John Allen Wilcox (or John Alexander Wilcox) (April 18, 1819 – February 7, 1864) was a politician from Mississippi and Texas who served in the United States House of Representatives in the early 1850s and then in the Confederate Congress during the American Civil War. Biography John Allen (or Alexander) Wilcox was born in Greene County, North Carolina, a son of Ruben and Sarah (Garland) Wilcox. One brother, Cadmus Wilcox, would later become a general in the Confederate States Army. It is likely that Wilcox was raised and educated in Tipton County, Tennessee, where the family moved. Moving to Mississippi and entering politics, he served as secretary of the State Senate. He enlisted in the United States Army during the Mexican–American War, serving as lieutenant colonel of the 2nd Mississippi Volunteer Infantry. Jack Wilcox
Joseph Wilcox (23 March 1887 – 29 May 1964) was an English professional footballer who played as an outside right for various clubs in the years preceding the First World War. Football career Wilcox was born in Walsall, Worcestershire and joined Aston Villa, initially as an amateur, in March 1906 before signing as a professional in November 1907. He only played six games in the Football League for Aston Villa, before joining Birmingham in a part-exchange deal involving George Travers in November 1908. He was a winger who enjoyed beating opposing defenders, and was a creator of chances for others rather than a goalscorer. He played 48 games for Birmingham in all competitions before moving on to Southampton in May 1911. Southampton's newly appointed manager, George Swift, spent a total of £820 on transfers, recruiting eleven new players during May and June 1911. John Laurence Wilcox, BSC (7 May 1913 – 31 May 1979) was a British cinematographer. He frequently worked with director Freddie Francis and photographed many popular British films, including ''Carve Her Name with Pride'', '' Summer Holiday'' and ''Dr. Who and the Daleks''. The nephew of the director and producer Herbert Wilcox, he began his film career in 1930 as an often uncredited second camera assistant to Freddie Young. John Wilcox (American Football)
John Dale Wilcox (born March 15, 1938) is a former American football defensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles. Growing up Wilcox won two state titles with Vale High School. He first went to Boise Junior College (now Boise State University) before transferring to the University of Oregon in Eugene to play for the Webfoots. Wilcox led the Webfoots (now Ducks) to the 1958 Rose Bowl, which they lost 10–7. He graduated from Oregon in 1959. Playing career Wilcox was small for a defensive end, drafted late by the Philadelphia Eagles in 1960. He played 12 games while the Eagles won the NFL title that year. Rather than return to the team, Wilcox decided to retire, citing the small salary ($7,500) and the toil it might have taken on his body. Firpo Wilcox
John Harrison "Firpo" Wilcox (December 21, 1901 – August 2, 1962) was an American football player and professional wrestler. Wilcox was born in Bixby, Oklahoma Territory in 1901. He was the son of Bixby pioneers. He moved as a child to Leonard, Oklahoma. He played college football for Kendall College and the University of Oklahoma. He also competed in wrestling at Oklahoma. He also played professional football in the National Football League (NFL) as a tackle for the Buffalo Rangers in 1926 and Staten Island Stapletons in 1930. He appeared in 12 NFL games, 11 as a starter. After retiring from football, he worked as a professional wrestler in the late 1920s and 1930s. He was billed as an "Oklahoma Indian" (sometimes as "Chief Firpo Wilcox") during his wrestling career. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
