John Walters (poet)
John Walters (11 June 1760 – 28 June 1789) was a Welsh Anglican priest and poet. Life Walters was the eldest son of John Walters, a clergyman and lexicographer, and he was born on 11 June 1760 in Llandough, Glamorgan, south Wales. He was educated at Cowbridge Grammar School and Jesus College, Oxford, matriculating in 1777 obtaining his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1781. During his time in Oxford, he was sub-librarian at the Bodleian Library. He became headmaster of Cowbridge Grammar School in 1783 and headmaster of Ruthin School in the following year, when he was also promoted to Master of Arts. Walters was later appointed as rector of Efenechtyd, Denbighshire. He died on 28 June 1789 in Ruthin, survived by his wife and two daughters. John Walters (Welsh Cleric)
John Walters (1721–1797) was a Welsh cleric from Glamorgan in the eighteenth century. He wrote a couple of manifestos, including ''A Dissertation on the Welsh Language'' (1770), in which he praised the Welsh language. He was a noted lexicographer, publishing ''An English–Welsh Dictionary'' in fifteen parts (1770 to 1794). Walters was born on 22 August 1721. His father, also named John, was a timber merchant, but both his parents died when John jr was in his youth. It is likely that it was John Walters who convinced printer Rhys Thomas (d. 1790) to establish Glamorgan's first printing press at Cowbridge Cowbridge ( cy, Y Bont-faen) is a market town in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales, approximately west of the centre of Cardiff. Tudor Walters
Sir John Tudor Walters PC (25 February 1866 – 16 July 1933) was a Welsh architect, surveyor and Liberal Party politician. He served as Paymaster-General under David Lloyd George from 1919 to 1922 and once again briefly in 1931 under Ramsay MacDonald. Political career Walters was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sheffield Brightside at the 1906 general election and was knighted in 1912. He served as Paymaster-General in the Government of David Lloyd George from 1919 to 1922 and was sworn of the Privy Council in 1919. He lost his seat at Sheffield at the 1922 general election. He tried unsuccessfully to get back into the House of Commons in 1923 at Pudsey and Otley in the West Riding of Yorkshire. He again stood for election to Parliament at the 1929 general election as Liberal candidate for the Cornish seat of Penryn and Falmouth. John Walters (broadcaster)
John Walters (11 July 1939 – 30 July 2001) was a British radio producer, presenter and musician. Initially a schoolteacher and a jazz enthusiast, he played trumpet in The Mighty Joe Young Jazz Men and the 1960s pop group The Alan Price Set before joining BBC Radio 1 in 1967, where he was John Peel's producer from 1969 to 1991. Biography Walters was born in Long Eaton, near Nottingham. He read Fine Arts at Durham University, where he worked under Victor Pasmore and as a student had his paintings exhibited alongside the works of David Hockney. John Walters (cricketer)
John Walters (born 7 August 1949) is a former English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1977 and 1980. Walters first played for Derbyshire in the 1977 season which saw the team finish seventh in the County Championship and continued in the 1978 season. He was part of the Derbyshire team which reached the Benson & Hedges Cup semi-finals of 1979 and continued to play for the Derbyshire team in limited overs cricket until 1980. Walters was a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. John Robert Walters (born 7 July 1956) is a retired Namibian lawyer, serving as ombudsman from 2004 to 2021. Early life and education Walters, a Namibian Coloured by descent, was born on 7 July 1956 in Karasburg, South West Africa. From 1971 he attended Dr Lemmer High School in Rehoboth from which he obtained matric in 1974. He wanted to study medicine but failed to obtain the special permit that was necessary during apartheid for a person of color to study at a Whites-only university. He eventually settled for law studies at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) in Cape Town, South Africa, which was a tertiary education institution for colored people but did not have a school of medicine. The Iowa State Cyclones are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Iowa State University, located in Ames. The university is a member of the Big 12 Conference and competes in NCAA Division I, fielding 16 varsity teams (6 men's and 10 women's teams) in 12 sports. The "Cyclones" name dates back to 1895. That year, Iowa suffered an unusually high number of devastating cyclones (as tornadoes were called at the time). In September, the football team from what was then Iowa Agricultural College traveled to Northwestern University and defeated that team by a score of 45–0. John Lasarus Williams (29 October 1924 – 15 June 2004), known as John L, was a Welsh nationalist activist. Williams was born in Llangoed on Anglesey, but lived most of his life in nearby Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. In his youth, he was a keen footballer, and he also worked as a teacher. His activism started when he campaigned against the refusal of Brewer Spinks, an employer in Blaenau Ffestiniog, to permit his staff to speak Welsh. Jonathan Ronald Walters (born 20 September 1983) is a former professional footballer who played as a forward. Walters started his career at Blackburn Rovers but failed to break into the first team and joined Bolton Wanderers. He then went out on loan to Hull City, Crewe Alexandra and Barnsley before joining Hull permanently. He then went on to play for Wrexham and Chester City before finally finding regular football at Championship side Ipswich Town. Walters spent three years at Portman Road before joining Stoke City for £2.75 million in August 2010.
