John Volk
John Volk (September 28, 1915 – November 23, 2008) was an American politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and chairman of Freedom, Wisconsin. Born in Freedom, Volk was a farmer. He served as town chairman of Freedom in the 1940s. In a special election in June 1983, he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly, serving until 1991. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. From 1848 to 1853 there were 66 assembly districts; from 1854 to 1856, 82 districts; from 1857 to 1861, 97 districts; and from 1862 to 1972, 100 districts. Freedom is a town in Forest County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 345 at the 2010 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 5.62%, is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 376 people, 158 households, and 115 families residing in the town. The population density was 11.0 people per square mile (4.3/km2). There were 435 housing units at an average density of 12.8 per square mile (4.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 99.73% White and 0.27% Native American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.06% of the population.
