John Tyrel
John de Poix Tyrel (1840 – 15 July 1885) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Personal Tyrel was born in 1840 in Worcester, England, the son of John de Poix Tyrel Snr. and Mary Christina (née Chapman). A member of the Church of England, he had a private education in London and Worcester and arrived in Queensland in 1864 and became the manager of the Redland Bay Sugar Plantation. In 1872 he was an auctioneer and commercial agent in Stanthorpe. On 13 November 1880, Tyrel married Elizabeth, the widow of Charles Farley, on 13 November 1880, at Stanthorpe. He died there in July 1885. Community involvement He was elected a member of the Royal Colonial Institute in 1880 and a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows in 1883. Carnarvon was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland that existed from 1873 to 1992. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) is a non-political and non-sectarian international fraternal order of Odd Fellowship. It was founded in 1819 by Thomas Wildey in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. Redland Bay
Redland Bay is a coastal semi-rural locality in the City of Redland, Queensland, Australia. In the , Redland Bay had a population of 14,958 people. Since the first European settlers arrived in the mid-19th century, Redland Bay has remained a farming and fishing-based area until the mid-20th century when some of the farms were subdivided and improved transport infrastructure made it possible for residents to commute the 35 kilometers into Brisbane. Geography Redland Bay is at the southern end of Redland City, south-east of Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. The locality is named for the bay to its east (), which forms part of larger Moreton Bay. The redness of the soil derives from iron oxides present in lava from a volcano that erupted (millions of years ago) in northern New South Wales, some 100 kilometres to the south. William Miles (Queensland Politician)
William Miles (5 May 1817 – 22 August 1887) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Personal life Miles was born on 5 May 1817 at Hails Quarry, near Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of William Miles and Alison (née Wilson). He married Mary Taylor in Colinton in 1838 and together they emigrated to New South Wales on the ship ''Duncan'' as assisted migrants and arrived at Sydney on 30 June 1838. He was employed on Mr. W. H. Chapman's station on the Macleay River, until 1852, when he commenced squatting on his own account on the Dawson River (Queensland), Dawson River, in the then colony of Queensland. William Miles died on 22 August 1887 at his home in Toowoomba, when an abscess in his ear lead to an inflammation of his brain.
