John Traeger (Texas Politician)
John Edward Traeger (November 13, 1859–October 16, 1946) was an American politician who served as Cook County Sheriff, Cook County Coroner, and Chicago City Treasurer. He also served as Chicago city comptroller, Chicago city collector, Lake, Illinois city collector, and as a member of the Cook County Jury Commission. Early life Traeger was born November 13, 1859. Traeger was educated in Chicago Public Schools. In 1884, Traeger got married. Beginning in the late 1880s, Traeger began residing on Chicago's South Side. Traeger became employed in the pork meatpacking business. In 1904, he became vice president of the newly organized Stockmen's Trust and Savings Bank, a job that he would hold for decades. 1907 Chicago Mayoral Election
In the Chicago mayoral election of 1907, Republican Fred A. Busse defeated Democratic incumbent Edward F. Dunne. This was the first mayoral election to a four-year term in Chicago's history, as terms had been extended from two to four years. The election took place on April 2. In order to select their nominee, the Democratic Party held a primary election open to members of its municipal party convention. Mayor Dunne was challenged by former mayor Carter Harrison Jr. Dunne defeated Harrison in the primary by a strong margin. Nominations Democratic primary Dunne was able to defeat a challenge from Carter Harrison Jr. for the nomination. Harrison had secured support from a number of ward bosses (including Robert Burke and John Powers) as well as the Sullivan-Hopkins wing of the party. The City Treasurer of Chicago is an elected official of the City of Chicago. Current occupant The current City Treasurer of Chicago is Democrat Melissa Conyears. Edward Fitzsimmons Dunne
Edward Fitzsimmons Dunne (October 12, 1853 – May 24, 1937) was an American politician who was the 24th Governor of Illinois from 1913 to 1917 and previously served as the 38th mayor of Chicago from April 5, 1905 to 1907. Dunne is the only person to be elected both Mayor of Chicago and Governor of Illinois. A fire escape is a special kind of emergency exit, usually mounted to the outside of a building or occasionally inside but separate from the main areas of the building. It provides a method of escape in the event of a fire or other emergency that makes the stairwells inside a building inaccessible. Fire escapes are most often found on multiple-story residential buildings, such as apartment buildings. The Chicago City Council is the legislative branch of the government of the City of Chicago in Illinois. It consists of 50 alderpersons elected from 50 wards to serve four-year terms. The council is gaveled into session regularly, usually monthly, to consider ordinances, orders, and resolutions whose subject matter includes code changes, utilities, taxes, and many other issues.
