John The Fisherman
"John the Fisherman" is the debut single by American rock band Primus. It was first released on December 30, 1989 on the live album '' Suck on This'', then re-released a year later on May 17, 1990, this time on their debut studio album ''Frizzle Fry'' as the lead single. The band's frontman Les Claypool said of the song: "John the Fisherman" was written so long ago. I like to write about things I know about so that I don’t sound like a dipshit talking over my head. I fish. Some dads take their kids to football games or baseball games. My dad took me fishing. That’s what we did, almost every weekend. My uncle, my grandfather, that’s what we did. It’s a big part of my history. So, for me, it was always easy to write about. These fishing songs kept popping up, themes about the ocean, and it made it like a chronicle, a subdivision of our body of work. Primus (band)
Primus is an American rock music, rock band formed in El Sobrante, Contra Costa County, California, El Sobrante, California in 1984. The band is currently composed of bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde, Larry "Ler" LaLonde, and drummer Tim Alexander, Tim "Herb" Alexander. Primus originally formed in 1984 with Claypool and guitarist Todd Huth, later joined by drummer Jay Lane, though the latter two departed the band at the beginning of 1989, and were replaced by LaLonde and Alexander respectively. The "classic" lineup of Claypool, LaLonde and Alexander debuted with the live album ''Suck on This'', which was self-released in 1989 on Claypool's label Prawn Song Records, Prawn Song and reissued a year later by Caroline Records. Pork Soda
''Pork Soda'' is the third studio album by the American funk metal band Primus, released April 20, 1993, certified Gold in September 1993 and certified Platinum in May 1997. The 2005 re-issue comes in a digipak and contains a booklet with lyrics printed to nine songs, omitting "Pork Soda" which consists of a series of unintelligible rants. The album was performed in its entirety for the first time at the Fox Oakland Theatre on December 31, 2015. Music and lyrics The album contains darker content than previous Primus efforts, featuring lyrics dealing with murder (" My Name Is Mud"), suicide ("Bob"), and alienation ("Nature Boy").
