John Tennant (bushranger)
John Tennant was an Australian bushranger who was active around the Canberra district in the mid-1820s. Mount Tennent is named after him as it was on the slopes of this steep mountain behind the village of Tharwa where many people believed he used to hide, although this is now thought to be incorrect. Tennant was born in Belfast, Ireland, and was 29 years old when he was sentenced to transportation to Australia for life in 1823. He arrived in Sydney on 12 July 1824 on the 'Prince Regent'. He was assigned to Joshua John Moore and to join other men, James Clarke and John McLaughlin, who had helped establish Moore's property Canberry or Canberra, the first European habitation on the Limestone Plains. In 1826 Tennant and another man, John Ricks, absconded from their assigned landholder and took to the bush. John Tennant (footballer, Born 1939)
John Graham Tennant (1 August 1939 – December 1985) was an English footballer who played as a goalkeeper in the Football League for Darlington and Southend United. Tennant was born in Darlington, County Durham, in 1939. He made his debut for Darlington F.C. as a 17-year-old, in a 1–0 defeat away to Halifax Town in the Fourth Division on 19 April 1957. He played twice more in what remained of the season, and made a further five appearances early in the 1957–58 season, conceding 14 goals. Given a free transfer by Darlington, Tennant joined up with First Division club Chelsea in August 1959 for a month's trial, during which he made five appearances for their Metropolitan League team. The trial came to nothing, and in October he joined Southend United. Lt-Col. John Edward Tennant DSO MC (12 October 1890 – 7 August 1941) was a British airman, explorer, banker and Liberal Party politician. Background Tennant was the eldest son of Francis John Tennant of Innes, Morayshire. He was educated at Royal Naval College, Osborne and Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. In 1918 he married Georgina Helen Kirkpatrick. They had one son, Iain Mark Tennant. In 1925 she obtained a divorce. In 1926 he married Victoria Maud Veronica Duff. They had two sons and two daughters. Early career Tennant served as a Midshipman, 1908–10. In 1910 he became a 2nd Lieutenant in the Scots Guards. After the outbreak of war in September 1914 he was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps. He served in France, 1914–16, and as OC for the RFC and the RAF in Mesopotamia, 1916–18. Andrew Tennant (20 June 1835 – 19 July 1913) was a Scottish-born Australian pastoralist, businessman and politician. He was a member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1881 to 1887, representing Electoral district of Flinders, Flinders, and a member of the South Australian Legislative Council from 1898 to 1902, representing Northern District (South Australian Legislative Council), Northern District. Early years Andrew was born on 20 June 1835 at Hawick, Roxburghshire, Scotland, to John Tennant and his wife Jessie née Aitken. John Tennant (born 25 December 1986) is a British politician, who was a Brexit Party Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the North East of England between 2019 and the United Kingdom's withdrawal from the EU. and the former party leader of Independent Union, of which he is a councillor on Hartlepool Borough Council for the Jesmond ward. In September 2019, all IU councillors, as well as the one Veterans and People's Party councillor, who made up the coalition at Hartlepool Borough Council defected to the Brexit Party, renaming their already existing coalition with the three Conservative councillors to the "Brexit and Conservative Coalition". Despite this, the IU was still registered with the Electoral Commission with Tennant listed as its current leader. Jack Tennant
John William Tennant (3 August 1907 – 1978) was a footballer who played in the Football League for Bolton Wanderers, Liverpool, Torquay United and Stoke City. Career Tennant was born in Newcastle upon Tyne and played for his works team Washington Colliery before joining in 1926 Newcastle United but returned to the Colliery without making an appearance. Four years later he signed for Stoke City but played just once in 1930–31 which came in a 2–1 victory over Charlton Athletic on 25 October 1930. Tennant then spent the 1932–33 at Torquay United playing in all of the "Gulls" matches and impressed enough to earn a move to Liverpool. He earned a reputation as a speedy left back at Anfield and it came as a surprise when he was sold to Bolton Wanderers in 1935 having just established himself in the side.
