John Taylor (Australian Politician)
John Russell Taylor (c. 1908 – 26 March 1961 ) was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. He represented the seats of Maranoa from 1944 to 1950 and Balonne from 1950 to 1957. Taylor died in 1961 while attending his daughter's wedding and was buried in Lutwyche Cemetery Lutwyche Cemetery is a cemetery located at Kedron, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Electoral District Of Maranoa
Maranoa was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland. History Maranoa of the original sixteen electorates established in 1859. Geographically it was based on the Balonne River catchment area, including the towns of Roma and St George. Despite various redistributions over the years, the electorate remained in the same general vicinity until its abolition in 1949 when most of it was included in the resurrected Electoral district of Balonne. A sheep shearer is a worker who uses (hand-powered)-blade or machine shears to remove wool from domestic sheep during crutching or shearing. History During the early years of sheep breeding in Australia, shearing was carried out by shepherds, assigned servants, Ticket of Leave men, and free labourers using blade shears. As the sheep industry expanded, more shearers were required. Although the demand had increased, the conditions had not, and shearers had to contend with terrible working conditions, very long hours and low pay.
