Charles William Conroy
Charles William Conroy (28 April 1868 – 28 July 1944) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Conroy was born in Toowoomba, Queensland, the son of Michael Conroy and his wife Anne (née Murray) and was educated in Toowoomba. He moved to Roma in his twenties and worked as a clerk for the solicitor, R.H. Dyball. He then went into business as a tobacconist and stationer. Electoral District Of Maranoa
Maranoa was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland. History Maranoa of the original sixteen electorates established in 1859. Geographically it was based on the Balonne River catchment area, including the towns of Roma and St George. Despite various redistributions over the years, the electorate remained in the same general vicinity until its abolition in 1949 when most of it was included in the resurrected Electoral district of Balonne. 1944 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 15 April 1944 to elect the 62 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The election was the first that Labor had contested under Premier Frank Cooper, who had been in office for 19 months by the time of the poll. From this election, the voting method was changed from contingency voting to First past the post voting. Queensland retained this method for state elections until Preferential Voting was restored by the Country/Liberal Coalition at the 1963 state election. The election resulted in Labor receiving a fifth term in office, albeit with a reduced majority. The Queensland Government is the democratic administrative authority of the Australian state of Queensland.
