John Sparnon
John Sparnon (died 15 November 2014) was a New Zealand rugby league player who represented New Zealand. Playing career Sparnon played for the Richmond and Point Chevalier clubs in the Auckland Rugby League. He represented Auckland. In the 1963 trials, Sparnon scored two tries and was subsequently selected to tour Australia with the New Zealand Kiwis, becoming Kiwi number 419. However he did not play in any test matches during the tour. He was in the Auckland side which beat Australia 15-14 in 1969. New Zealand Warriors
The New Zealand Warriors are a professional rugby league football club based in Auckland, New Zealand that competes in the National Rugby League (NRL) premiership and is the League's only team from outside Australia. They were formed in 1995 as the Auckland Warriors, and are officially known as the One New Zealand Warriors for sponsorship reasons. The Warriors are coached by Andrew Webster and captained by Tohu Harris. The Warriors are based at Mount Smart Stadium in the Auckland suburb of Penrose. For the 1995 season the newly formed Auckland Warriors became the first club from outside Australia to be admitted to the Australian Rugby League's premiership when it expanded from 16 to 20 teams. The Auckland Rugby League (ARL) is the governing body for the sport of rugby league in the Auckland Region of New Zealand. It is responsible for rugby league in the region, including both club and school rugby league. It began in 1910 when the first season of club league in Auckland occurred. The first match was a practice game between Newton Rangers and Ponsonby United at Victoria Park which Ponsonby won 17 to 15. The first full club season was in 1910.
