John Slade (field Hockey)
John Slade (born Hans Schlesinger, May 30, 1908 – September 12, 2005) was an American field hockey player. He competed at the 1948 Summer Olympics. Born in Germany in 1908, Slade emigrated to the United States in 1935. John Slade (politician)
John Slade (1819 – January 9, 1847) was a merchant and politician in Newfoundland. He represented Fogo in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1842 to 1847. The son of Robert Slade (merchant), he was born in Poole, Dorset Dorset ( ; archaically: Dorsetshire , ) is a county in South West England on the English Channel coast. The ceremonial county comprises the unitary authority areas of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole and Dorset (unitary authority), Dors .... He began work at a young age with John Slade & Co., a firm established by his great uncle, John Slade. By 1842, he was manager for the firm's operations in Twillingate. Slade was elected to the Newfoundland House of Assembly at the age of 23, the youngest person ever elected to that assembly. He died in Poole at the age of 28. and is buried in the churchyard of the parish church - St James. Major-General Sir John Ramsay Slade (16 March 1843 – 4 September 1913) was a British Army officer who became General Officer Commanding the British Troops in Egypt. Early life and education Slade was born at Berwick House in Berwick St Leonard, Wiltshire, into a distinguished military family, the eldest of four sons of Lieutenant-General Marcus Slade and his wife, Charlotte Ramsay. He was the grandson of General Sir John Slade, 1st Baronet and great-grandson of George Ramsay, 8th Earl of Dalhousie, and nephew of Admiral Sir Adolphus Slade. He survived his three younger brothers. Arthur Maitland Slade (27 November 1846 – 1847) died in childhood, while Maj. John Bodey (15492 November 1583) was an English Roman Catholic academic jurist and lay theologian. He was martyred in 1583, and beatified in 1929. Life John Bodey was born in Wells, Somerset, in 1549. His father was a wealthy merchant. General Sir John "Black Jack" Slade, 1st Baronet, (31 December 1762 – 13 August 1859) served as a general officer in the British Army during the Peninsular War. Slade was praised in official reports, including by Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, who also voiced some criticisms of him privately.
