John Seddon (politician)
John Bryan Seddon (29 December 1934 – 30 November 2021) was a New Zealand politician and chief executive. He was the deputy mayor of Lower Hutt and later chief executive of Porirua City Council for twenty years from 1980 until 2000. Biography Early life Seddon was born in 1934. He was an engineer and was employed by Fletcher Construction and later Mobil Oil, eventually becoming a senior manager. Seddon's first marriage had broken up while he was running his own small business after a succession of senior management jobs in local companies. Political career He stood for election to the New Zealand House of Representatives as the Labour Party candidate for the seat of at the , finishing second and significantly increasing Labour's share of the vote. Ernie Barry
Ernest Albert Barry (1928 − December 2003) was a New Zealand educator and politician. He was a Lower Hutt city councillor and was deputy mayor from 1977 to 1980. Biography Early life and career Barry was born in London, England. Both his father and brother were Labour Party members and local government politicians, influencing his own political philosophy. After his education he trained as a plumber. He then emigrated to New Zealand as a "Ten Pound Pom" in 1950 aboard the ''Atlantis''. After arriving in New Zealand he worked as a plumber. Pātaka Art + Museum is a municipal museum and art gallery of Porirua City, New Zealand. Te Marae o Te Umu Kai o Hau is the name of the building where Pātaka Museum + Art is located and opened in 1998. It also houses the Porirua City Library, Cafe Kaizen and a Japanese Garden. Jenny Brash
Jennifer Sylvia Brash (born December 1946) is a former New Zealand local government politician. In a career spanning nearly 40 years, she was mayor of Porirua from 1998 to 2010 having previously served as a Porirua city councillor. After retiring as mayor she served for the twelve years from 2010 to 2022 as councillor for Porirua–Tawa on the Greater Wellington Regional Council. Porirua City Council Brash was first elected as a Northern Ward councillor in 1983 and held that role until 1989. She was elected in 1995 for another three-year term and was elected as mayor for the first time in 1998. Brash last contested the mayoralty in October 2007 against four other candidates. Whitford Brown
Whitford James Richard Brown (13 May 1910 – 14 April 1986) was the foundation mayor of Porirua City, a city in the Wellington Region of New Zealand, for 21 years from 1962 to 1983. Previously, Porirua was part of what was then called the Makara County Council. In 1961, the Local Government Commission deemed that Porirua should become a borough. Sir Gerard Aloysius Wall (24 January 1920 – 22 November 1992) was a surgeon and a politician in New Zealand. He was Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives from 1985 to 1987. John Burke (mayor)
John Brian Burke (born 6 February 1946) is a former mayor of Porirua City, Wellington Region, New Zealand. Prior to his time as mayor from 1983 to 1998, he served 12 years as a city councillor with six years from 1977 to 1983 as deputy mayor. After a 15-year absence from the city council, in 2013 and 2016 he stood for election as a city councillor in the eastern ward, and was elected. In September 2019 Burke announced he would not be seeking re-election, ending continuous public office which began in 1971.
