	John Sears (salt Producer) John Sears (1744 – 1817) (colloquially known as Sleepy John Sears) was a salt producer in Massachusetts Bay Colony. He was born in Yarmouth, Massachusetts, Yarmouth on the neck of Cape Cod and spent most of his life as a sea captain. He was known as Sleepy John because of his habit of falling asleep during the day. In the years leading up to the American Revolutionary War, Revolutionary War the colonists were concerned about the loss of salt imports from overseas which were vital for the preservation of meat and fish. The Continental Congress declared a bounty of one third of a dollar for each bushel (56 pounds weight) produced, but it was soon discovered that boiling down seawater to produce it was highly uneconomic. 	John Edward Sears John Edward Sears (28 November 1857 – 20 January 1941) was a British architect and politician. He was the son of the Reverend James Sears, a Baptist minister in Camberwell in south London, and quickly became involved in the activities of the church as a teacher and librarian. He was also the leader of the local Band of Hope temperance organisation and was associated with Baptist churches in the Peckham area. Sears was educated privately before being articled to C. G. Searle and S. C. Searle, architects, in 1872. At the same time he studied architecture at University College London and the Royal Academy Schools.
