John Savage (engraver)
John Savage ( fl. 1683–1701) was an engraver and printseller in London. Life Savage was said to be French, and therefore may have been a Huguenot exile. He resided in Denmark Court, The Strand, until he purchased the plates and took over the business of Isaac Beckett at the Golden Head in the Old Bailey. Later he moved to the Golden Head in St. Paul's Churchyard, a hub of the publishing and printmaking industry near Doctors' Commons.Shesgreen p.65 Works Savage produced book illustrations and portraits which he published as frontispieces or separately, as well as playing and trade cards, and from 1683 he was the engraver of the plates for the ''Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society''. Though he had bought Beckett's stock of mezzotint plates and continued to offer mezzotints, the plates he produced himself were only etchings and engravings. Savage Arena (formerly John F. Savage Hall and Centennial Hall) is a multi-purpose arena located in Toledo, Ohio, on the campus of the University of Toledo. The arena opened in 1976 and originally seated 9,000 for basketball and up to 10,000 for concerts. As part of a $30 million renovation and addition to the arena, completed in 2008, the seating capacity was reduced to 7,300 for basketball and up to 8,300 for concerts. John Savage (born February 27, 1965) is an American baseball coach and former pitcher, who currently serves as the head baseball coach for the UCLA Bruins baseball, UCLA Bruins. He played college baseball at Santa Clara Broncos baseball, Santa Clara for coaches Jerry McClain and John Oldham (baseball), John Oldham from 1984 to 1986 before playing in Minor League Baseball (MiLB) for three seasons (1986-1988). After serving as an assistant coach with Nevada Wolf Pack, Nevada and USC Trojans, USC in the 1990s, he became the head coach for the UC Irvine Anteaters (2002–04). Savage became UCLA's head baseball coach in July 2004 and has guided the Bruins in that role for the past 18 seasons. John Joseph Savage is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1987 and the Minnesota Twins in 1990. He was born on April 22, 1964 in Louisville, Kentucky. He attended St. Xavier High School in Louisville, and he went on to attend the University of Kentucky. He threw and batted right-handed. At 6'3" tall and 190 pounds, Savage was drafted by the Dodgers in the 8th round (194th overall) of the 1985 amateur entry draft. He was signed by Dodgers scout Carl Loewenstine. He first season in the minors was superb-in 24 games and 44 innings pitched with Great Falls (rookie league), he had a 5-1 record with 51 strikeouts and a 1.01 ERA. Jake Savage is a Gaelic footballer. He plays for the Kerins O'Rahilly's club and at senior level for the Kerry county team. He came on as a blood substitute in the 2022 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final. Kerry won that game, earning Savage an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medal. John A. Savage (14 December 1929 - January 2009) was an English football goalkeeper who played for Hull City, Halifax Town, Manchester City, Walsall and Wigan Athletic. Savage was signed by Manchester City in November 1953, where he deputised for Bert Trautmann. He was at the club for more than a year before making his debut, a 2–0 defeat to Newcastle United on 27 December 1954. He also played in the next game against Burnley, but once Trautmann recovered from injury Savage returned to the reserves. His next chance came in April 1956, when he again replaced Trautmann for two matches. Trautmann broke his neck in the 1956 FA Cup Final, giving Savage the opportunity of an extended run in the first team during the 1956–57 season. John Scholes Savage (3 March 1929 – 14 July 2008) was an English cricketer who played first-class and List A cricket for Leicestershire and Lancashire between 1953 and 1969. He was born at Ramsbottom, Lancashire and died at Rochdale. Savage was a right-arm off-break bowler who, unusually for his time, which was an era of increasingly defensive bowling, flighted the ball rather than bowling flat, and a right-handed tail-end batsman. In his first game for Leicestershire in 1953 he hit 31 and 8 not out, and therefore averaged 39.00 with the bat at that point: it proved to be a very false dawn in terms of his batting ability, as he only once surpassed that 31 and his highest score in 17 years was only 33. John Savage was an 18th-century surveyor of colonial Virginia. He surveyed as part of a 1736 expedition to settle a boundary dispute between Lord Fairfax and the English Privy Council concerning the extent of the vast Northern Neck land grant. Surveying the Northern Neck In 1736, three different survey expeditions were organized with all three having representatives of both the Colony of Virginia and of Lord Fairfax. One party was to explore and map the Potomac to its head; this included Major William Mayo and Mr Brookes for the Colony (and King) and Mr Winslow and John Savage for Fairfax.
