John S. O'Connor
John S. O'Connor (27 December 1896 – 2 November 1967) was an Irish revolutionary, solicitor and Fianna Fáil politician. Biography O'Connor grew up in a nationalist family in County Limerick: O'Connor's father, Thomas O'Connor Senior, as well as his aunt Brigid, were founding members of Sinn Féin in 1905, while his older brother Thomas (Tommy) Junior joined the Irish Republican Brotherhood in 1915. John joined the Irish Volunteers in 1913 and took part in the Howth gun-running in 1916. Alongside his brother Tommy, he took part in the Easter Rising, serving under the command of Ned Daly. O'Connor was a section commander and was in charge of the barricades on May Lane beside the Jameson Distillery. Following the surrender of the rebels, O'Connor was imprisoned in Stafford Prison in England until his release in December 1916. HM Prison Stafford is a Category C men's prison, located in Stafford, Staffordshire, England. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. In 2014 it became a sex offender-only jail. History His Majesty's Prison at Stafford was originally constructed and opened in 1793. It was substantially enlarged by a building development programme of works in the 19th century. HMP Stafford became a sex offender-only prison in 2014. Early history In 1812, forger William Booth was publicly executed outside the jail. A badly-tied rope allowed him to fall to the floor, unharmed. He was hanged a second time, fatally, later that day. Éamon De Valera
Éamon de Valera (, ; first registered as George de Valero; changed some time before 1901 to Edward de Valera; 14 October 1882 – 29 August 1975) was a prominent Irish statesman and political leader. He served several terms as head of government and head of state and had a leading role in introducing the 1937 Constitution of Ireland.
