The Guidant John Rose Minnesota Oval (officially stylized as OVAL), formerly the John Rose Minnesota Oval, is an outdoor ice rink in Roseville, Minnesota, United States. It is claimed to be the largest artificial outdoor skating surface in North America. The facility was constructed from June to December 1993. Rink The rink consists of a concrete surface (a 400-meter track surrounding an infield ice arena) with of embedded cooling tubes and an 800-ton refrigeration system. When the temperature is above —the highest temperature at which an icy surface can be maintained—the concrete surface can be used for inline skating. History The Oval had its beginnings in 1983, when then-governor Rudy Perpich dreamed of hosting the Olympic Games. Gustavus Heinrich de Rosenthal (1753–1829) was a Baltic German soldier and member of the Baltic nobility born in Vaimõisa, present-day Estonia, with the Title of Baron and last name of von Wetter-Rosenthal, a junior line of the von Wetter-Tegenfeldens. He came into conflict with another man and was forced to flee the country after killing him in a duel. He came to North America, where he served in the Continental Army using the name John Rose. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. John Holland Rose
John Holland Rose (28 June 1855 – 3 March 1942) was an influential English historian who wrote famous biographies of William Pitt the Younger and of French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. He also wrote a history of Europe, entitled ''The Development of the European Nations'' among other historical works. He was Vere Harmsworth Professor of Imperial and Naval History at the University of Cambridge between 1919 and his retirement in 1934. Career Holland Rose was born in Bedford in 1855. He was educated at Bedford Modern School where he was an exhibitioner, at Owens College, Manchester, and at Christ's College, Cambridge. John Carter Rose (April 27, 1861 – March 26, 1927) was a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and previously was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Education and career Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Rose received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1882 and entered private practice in Baltimore. He also worked as an editorial writer for the Baltimore Sun. He was a supervisor of the 1890 United States Census in Baltimore. He was the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland from 1898 to 1910. John Rose (cricketer)
John Rose (24 December 1853 – 6 November 1920) was an English cricketer. Rose was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm slow and who occasionally fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born at Warwick, Warwickshire. Rose made a single first-class appearance for Surrey against Yorkshire in 1878. Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat first, making 309 all out, with Rose taking a single wicket in the innings, that of Allen Hill. In response, Surrey were dismissed in their first-innings for just 78, with Rose dismissed for a duck by George Ulyett. Forced to follow-on in their second-innings, Surrey were dismissed for 127, with Rose again dismissed for a duck, this time by Harry Pearson. Yorkshire won the match by an innings and 104 runs. ''Daily Information'' (or ''Daily Info'' for short) is a printed information sheet in Oxford, England, displayed especially around the University colleges and departments, but also in local businesses. It has been in continuous existence since 28 September 1964, mostly as a brightly coloured A2 sheet, with premises originally in Warnborough Road, North Oxford. It provides information on events in and outside of Oxford, as well as reviews and small advertisements. Daily Information used to be published daily, as its name implies, but now appears on Tuesdays and Fridays during both university term-time and the vacation. It was founded and then run for 40 years by John Rose (26 April 1925, Tunbridge Wells – 17 December 2004). John Donald Rose FRS (2 January 1911 – 14 October 1976) was a British industrial chemist, who worked for Imperial Chemical Industries from 1935 to 1972. His posts at ICI included director of research and chairman of the paints division. He was also Master of the Worshipful Company of Salters. Life and career Rose was born in Greasbrough, Rotherham, Yorkshire on 2 January 1911 and was educated at Rotherham Grammar School before matriculating at Jesus College, Oxford in 1929 to study chemistry. He graduated with a BA degree in 1932, and spent a further year in study with Robert Robinson to obtain a post-graduate BSc degree in 1933. A two-year fellowship awarded by the Salters' Company allowed him to continue his research with Robinson in Oxford and to spend a year at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich with Leopold Ružička on the structure of abietic acid.
