John Roberts (hurler)
John Roberts (24 June 1895 – 9 December 1987) was an Irish hurler, handballer, referee and Gaelic games administrator. His league and championship career at senior level with the Kilkenny county team spanned thirteen years from 1916 until 1929. Born in Kilkenny, Roberts was educated at St John's Boys' School. He first played competitive hurling at the age of fourteen with the Dean Street Volunteers before joining the Dicksboro club in 1914. After winning county junior championship medals in 1914 and 1919, Roberts went on the captain the club at senior level. He won county senior championship medals in 1923 and 1926. Roberts first came to prominence on the inter-county scene in 1916. After impressing in a trial game he became a regular member of the Kilkenny senior team the following year. Over the course of the following thirteen championship seasons, Roberts won one All-Ireland medal. He also won three Leinster medals and played his last game for Kilkenny in 1929. ... Dicksboro GAA
Dicksboro is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Kilkenny City, Ireland. History Dicksboro GAA Club, founded in 1909. The club takes its name from Dicksboro townland, located next to Kilkenny Airport, the current ground is Palmerstown, to the west of the city. Dicksboro entered and won the junior championship of 1910. Dicksboro entered the senior championship in 1911. Dicksboro had no team from 1961 to 1969, until the club was reformed. Dicksboro officially opened the grounds in Palmerstown in June 1990. Cork GAA
The Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Contae Chorcaí) or Cork GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Cork and the Cork county teams. In hurling, the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final, the deciding match of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship competition, is considered the highest honour for referees to be appointed to officiate. The most recent final (2021) was refereed by Fergal Horgan, with James Owens on standby; Sean Stack as linesman; Liam Gordon on the sideline; and three umpires from Horgan's club Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams and one umpire from Cashel King Cormacs. Selection Men who referee a final that ends in a draw cannot also referee the replay. This rule was highlighted in 2019 when David Gough — thought by consensus to have had a good game — was replaced by Conor Lane for the replay. Wattie Dunphy
Walter 'Wattie' Dunphy (12 March 1896 – 11 October 1973) was an Irish hurler who played as a centre-back for the Kilkenny senior team. Dunphy made his first appearance for the team during the 1922 championship and became a regular player over the next decade. During that time he won one All-Ireland winner's medal and four Leinster winner's medals. In 1922 Dunphy captained the team to the All-Ireland title. At club level, Dunphy played with Mooncoin and won six county championship winners' medals in a career that spanned three decades. Dunphy also won a Railway Cup winners' medal when he was chosen as captain on the first Leinster inter-provincial championship-winning team. Dick Grace (hurler)
Dick Grace (10 August 1890 – 1 December 1974) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Tullaroan and was a member of the Kilkenny senior inter-county team from 1909 until 1926. Grace is one of only a handful of players to have won All-Ireland medals in each of three decades. Biography Dick Grace was born in Tullaroan, County Kilkenny in 1891. He was educated at the local national school and, in time, would go on to become one of his county’s greatest-ever hurlers. The Graces of Tullaroan were synonymous with both hurling and Gaelic football. Between them the three brothers – Dick, Jack and Pierce - won a total of 15 All-Ireland senior medals – eight in hurling and seven in football. 1926 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 1926 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 40th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 18 April 1926 and ended on 24 October 1926. The championship was won by Cork who secured the title following a 4-6 to 2-0 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 8th All-Ireland title. Tipperary were the defending champions but were defeated by Cork in the Munster final. The 1923 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 37th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 20 May 1923 and ended on 14 September 1924. The championship was won by Galway who secured the title following a 7-3 to 4-5 defeat of Limerick in the All-Ireland final. This was their first All-Ireland title. Kilkenny were the defending champions but were defeated by Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final.
