John Robbins (born October 26, 1947) is an American author, who popularized the links among nutrition, environmentalism, and animal rights. He is the author of the 1987 ''Diet for a New America'', an exposé on connections between diet, physical health, Cruelty to Animals, animal cruelty, and environmentalism. Biography Robbins is the son of Irma Robbins and Irv Robbins, co-founder of Baskin-Robbins. He is of Jewish descent. John graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1969, and received a master's degree from Antioch College, in 1976. John Everett Robbins (9 October 1903 – 7 March 1995) was a Canadian educator and encyclopedia editor. He served as the director of the Dominion Bureau of Statistics and helped found Carleton College. Robbins was a former President of Brandon University and the first Canadian Ambassador to the Holy See. A prolific Shakespearean actor, he trained at RADA and proceeded to work at the Manchester Library Theatre and the Bristol Old Vic early in his career.
