John R. Barnes
John Richard Barnes (July 28, 1833 – January 21, 1919) served in the first Utah State Senate. Barnes was a native of Sandy, Bedfordshire, England. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1848. In 1853, he emigrated from England to Utah. He was for many years ward clerk of the Kaysville ward under bishop Christopher Layton. He was a member of Utah's 1895 Constitutional Convention and elected as a Democrat to the State Senate that same year. He was also a director of Zion's Cooperative Mercantile Institution. Sandy, Bedfordshire
Sandy is a market town and civil parish in Central Bedfordshire, England. It lies to the east of Bedford, to the south west of Cambridge and north of Central London. The town has a population of around 13,400 based on 2015 estimates. The A1 road bypasses the town to the west, with the East Coast Main Line running to the east. The area surrounding the town is dominated by a range of low hills known as the Sand Hills with the River Ivel running through the town. The headquarters of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is on the outskirts of the town, having moved to The Lodge in 1961. Kaysville, Utah
Kaysville is a city in Davis County, Utah. It is part of the Ogden–Clearfield metropolitan area. The population was 27,300 at the time of the 2010 census, with an estimated population of 32,390 in 2019. History Shortly after Latter Day Saint pioneers arrived in 1847, the Kaysville area, originally known as "Kay's Creek" or Kay's Ward, was settled by Hector Haight in 1850 as a farming community. He had been sent north to find feed for the stock and soon thereafter constructed a cabin and brought his family to settle the area. Farmington, Utah also claims Hector Haight as its original settler. Two miles north of Haight's original settlement, Samuel Holmes built a cabin in 1849 and was soon joined by other settlers from Salt Lake, namely Edward Phillips, John Green, and William Kay. Christopher Layton
Christopher Layton (March 8, 1821 – August 7, 1898) was a Mormon colonizer and Patriarch who founded the cities of Kaysville, Utah; Layton, Utah; and Thatcher, Arizona. Layton, Utah, is named after him. Life Layton was born at Thorncote Green, Northill, Bedfordshire, England. He joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1842 and a year later emigrated to the United States. In 1846, Layton joined the Mormon Battalion. In 1852, he moved to Kaysville, Utah Territory. (This is mistaken he along with 500 men were recruited for the battle for their country against Mexico. It was called the Mormon Battalion. Zion's Co-operative Mercantile Institution (typically referred to as ZCMI) was an American department store chain. It was founded in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 9, 1868 by Brigham Young. For many years it used the slogan, "America's First Department Store." Andrew Jenson
Andrew Jenson, born Anders Jensen, (December 11, 1850 – November 18, 1941) was a Danish immigrant to the United States who acted as an Assistant Church Historian of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) for much of the early-20th century. Jenson also served the church as president of the Scandinavian Mission. Early life Anders Jensen was born in Torslev parish, Hjørring, Denmark. His parents joined the LDS Church when he was four. He left Denmark for the United States in 1866. He traveled across the North American Great Plains in Andrew H. Scott's ox company. Religious conversion is the adoption of a set of beliefs identified with one particular religious denomination to the exclusion of others.
