John Quinn Sr.
John Michael Quinn Sr. (died 5 August 1954) was an Australian rules footballer for the Port Adelaide Football Club, captaining the club from 1904 to 1905. Early life John was the eldest of 7 children born to Michael Quinn and Mary Sidoli. Junior Football John began playing for local club Semaphore Central in the early 1890s. Goldfields (1895–1899) In 1895 John left for the Western Australian Goldfields for employment. During his years in Western Australia he played in the strong Goldfields competition for Kanowna Football Club (known as White Feather). Return to Port Adelaide John returned home and began playing for Port Adelaide around 1900. Goldfields Football League
The Goldfields Football League is an Australian rules football league based in the Goldfields region of Western Australia. Founded in 1896 as Hannans District Football Association, the league enjoyed a seat and full voting rights on the Australian National Football Council until 1919. The first clubs to play Australian football were formed within the region, and the league helped popularise the sport in the region, helping to establish the sport and supplant Rugby in popularity. The GFL was known as the Goldfields Football Association (GFA) from 1901–07 and 1920–25, and as the Goldfields National Football League (GNFL) from 1926–87. Thomas James Quinn (11 August 1908 – 11 November 1969) was a leading Australian rules footballer of the 1920s and 1930s, playing for Port Adelaide Football Club and Geelong Football Club. Born in Birkenhead, South Australia, the son of former Port Adelaide captain John Quinn, Sr. and the older brother of dual Magarey Medallist Bob, Quinn showed aptitude for football from a young age, and standing 170 cm tall and built like a tank, Quinn made his South Australian National Football League (SANFL) debut for Port as a rover in 1928. Robert Berrima Quinn MM (9 April 1915 – 12 September 2008) was a champion Australian rules footballer with the Port Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL), and a decorated soldier of the Second World War.
