John Pickard (archaeologist)
John Pickard (October 12, 1858 – November 25, 1937) was an American professor of archaeology, art history, and Greek at the University of Missouri. He served on the Missouri State Capitol Decoration Committee in the early 20th century—his work survives in the architecture, sculpture, paintings, and stained glass of the Capitol. At the University of Missouri, he was the first chairman of the Department of Art History and Archaeology, acquiring and developing what would become the Museum of Art and Archaeology. His tenure at the school lasted over 40 years. Early life John Pickard was born on October 12, 1858, in Concord, New Hampshire. He obtained two degrees from Dartmouth College in 1883 and 1886. John Pickard (politician)
John Pickard (April 27, 1824 – December 17, 1883) was a New Brunswick businessman and political figure. He represented York in the House of Commons of Canada as an Independent Liberal from 1868 to 1883. He was born in Douglas, New Brunswick in 1824 and began work with his father there. He later established himself as a merchant in Fredericton and a lumber merchant in York County. In partnership with Thomas Temple, he owned and operated a sawmill at Fredericton. He helped found the People's Bank of New Brunswick in 1864 and a director of the New Brunswick Railway. In 1865, he ran against Charles Fisher in York as an opponent of Confederation and was defeated. John Pickard (composer)
John Pickard (born 11 September 1963) is a British classical composer. Biography Pickard was born in Burnley, Lancashire, England. He studied music and composition at the University of Wales, with Welsh composer William Mathias, and later in the Netherlands with Louis Andriessen and in 1989 was awarded a PhD in composition from the University of Wales. Since 1993 he has taught at the University of Bristol, where he is Professor of Composition and Applied Musicology, and was Head of Music between 2009 and 2013, and again between 2017 and 2018. Pickard is also conductor of the University of Bristol Symphony Orchestra and Choral Society. John Pickard (born 2 November 1977 in London) is an English actor, best known for playing David Porter in the BBC sitcom ''2point4 Children'', and Dominic Reilly (brother of Tony Hutchinson, played by Pickard's own brother Nick Pickard) in Channel 4's ''Hollyoaks''. Career He trained at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. He has performed on stage, in films and on TV. John M. Pickard (June 25, 1913 – August 4, 1993) was an American actor who appeared primarily in television westerns. Early life Pickard was born in Lascassas in Rutherford County, near Murfreesboro in Middle Tennessee. He graduated from the Nashville Conservatory in Nashville, Tennessee. His first acting roles were small parts in films, mostly uncredited, beginning in 1936 as a dueling soldier in the picture '' Mary of Scotland'', based on the 16th century queen, Mary of Scotland. From 1942 to 1946, Pickard served in the United States Navy, having been the model for naval recruitment posters during World War II. John Douglas Pickard (born 21 March 1946) is a British professor emeritus of neurosurgery in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences of University of Cambridge. He is the honorary director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Healthcare Technology Cooperative (HTC) for brain injury. His research focuses on advancing the care of patients with acute brain injury, hydrocephalus and prolonged disorders of consciousness through functional brain imaging, studies of pathophysiology and new treatments; as well as focusing on health, economic and ethical aspects.
