John Partridge (astrologer)
John Partridge (1644 – c. 1714) was an English astrologer, the author and publisher of a number of astrological almanacs and books. Life Partridge was born 18 January 1644 ( OS) in East Sheen, Surrey, and died in either 1714 or 1715. Although starting out in life humbly enough (he was working as a shoemaker in Covent Garden around 1680), Partridge managed to teach himself enough Latin, Greek, Hebrew and astrology to enroll at Leyden University, Holland. He graduated in Medicine and by 1682 was styling himself "Physician to his Majesty". Although he was one of the sworn physicians of the court, he apparently never attended nor received any salary. Partridge undertook to himself the task of reforming astrology. His program for reform involved eliminating the elements derived for the medieval Arabic tradition in favour of a return to Ptolemy. John Partridge (actor)
John Partridge (born 24 July 1971) is an English actor, dancer, singer, panelist and television presenter, who is probably best known for the role of Christian Clarke in the long-running BBC television soap opera ''EastEnders'', having joined the cast in January 2008. He has worked extensively as a singer and dancer in musical theatre, portraying Rum Tum Tugger in the official film production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical ''Cats''. Professional career Partridge initially had trained in ballet at the Royal Ballet Lower School, appearing in the television adaptation of Stan Barstow's novel '' A Kind of Loving'' in 1982. He went on to train in musical theatre at the Bush Davies School of Theatre Arts and Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts. Sir John Bernard Partridge (11 October 1861– 9 August 1945) was an English illustrator. Born in London, he was the son of Professor Richard Partridge, F.R.S., president of the Royal College of Surgeons, and nephew of John Partridge, portrait-painter extraordinary to Queen Victoria. For some years he was well known as an actor under the name of Bernard Gould. Education Partridge was educated at Stonyhurst College where one of his fellow pupils was Arthur Conan Doyle. Life and work Partridge then worked for six months in the offices of architect H. Handsom, before joining the firm of Lavers, Barraud and Westlake, ecclesiastical designers, where he spent two years producing altar-pieces, stained-glass etc. He then studied decorative painting under Philip Westlake, 1880–1884. John Slater Partridge (June 22, 1870 – May 20, 1926) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California. Education and career Born in Susanville, California, Partridge received an Artium Baccalaureus degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1892 and an Artium Magister degree from the same institution in 1894. He read law to enter the bar in 1897, and was in private practice in San Francisco, California from then until 1904. He was an assistant city attorney of San Francisco from 1904 to 1905, ran unsuccessfully for mayor against Eugene Schmitz among others, and returned to his private practice from 1906 to 1923. John Nelson Partridge
John Nelson Partridge (1838 – April 8, 1920) was the Police Commissioner for Brooklyn and Fire Commissioner for Brooklyn in the 1880s before the merger into New York City. He was the New York Superintendent of Public Works, and the New York City Police Commissioner from 1902 to 1903. Biography He was born in 1838 In Leicester, Massachusetts. From 1886 to 1887 he was president of the Brooklyn City and Newtown Railroad. He was the New York City Police Commissioner from 1902 to 1903. During his tenure he wanted to move the New York City police headquarters from Mulberry Street to Times Square. In 1906 he married Charlotte Held. They then moved to Westport, Connecticut.
