John P. Dobyns
John P. Dobyns (March 8, 1944August 28, 2020) was an American politician who served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1993 to 1999. Biography Dobyns was born on March 8, 1944, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He graduated from St. Mary's Springs High School and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. From 1964 to 1969 and again from 1974 to 1995, Dobyns was a member of the United States Army Reserve. During that time, he graduated from the United States Army Command and General Staff College and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was also a member of the Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin Sheriff's Department. Dobyns is married with two children and is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic War Veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. The 52nd Assembly District of Wisconsin is one of 99 districts in the Wisconsin State Assembly. Located in eastern Wisconsin, the district comprises part of southern Outagamie County, including most of the city of Appleton and the villages of Eden and Oakfield. The district also contains the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center, the Fox Cities Stadium, the Appleton campus of the Fox Valley Technical College, Lawrence University, the Fox River Paper Company Historic District, the Appleton Locks 1–3 Historic District and the Appleton Lock 4 Historic District. The district is represented by Republican Jerry L. O'Connor, since January 2023. Catholic War Veterans (officially called the Catholic War Veterans of the United States of America) is a national service organization of baptized Catholics that have served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. Founded in 1935, the Catholic War Veterans are dedicated to serving all service members and their families regardless of their religion. Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.) is a fraternal organization that was founded on February 6, 1898, in Seattle, Washington, by a group of six theater owners including John Cort (the first president), brothers John W. and Tim J. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE; also often known as the Elks Lodge or simply The Elks) is an American fraternal order founded in 1868, originally as a social club in New York City. History The Elks began in 1868 as a social club for minstrel show performers, called the "Jolly Corks". It was established as a private club to elude New York City laws governing the opening hours of public taverns. The Elks borrowed rites and practices from Freemasonry.
