John Owens (Gaelic Footballer)
John Owens (born 1966) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a right wing-back at senior level for the Tipperary and Leitrim county teams. Born in Loughinisland, County Down, Owens first played competitive Gaelic football during his schooling at St Colman's College and Clonmel High School. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of fifteen when he first linked up with the Leitrim and minor team before later joining the Tipperary minor, under-21 and junior sides. He joined the Tipperary senior panel during the 1985 championship. Owens subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen while he also lined out with the Leitrim senior team. As a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions Owens never won a Railway Cup medal. At club level he is a five-time championship medallist with Moyle Rovers. Loughinisland GAA
Loughinisland ( , ) is a small village and civil parish in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is between Downpatrick and Ballynahinch, about 21 miles (34 kilometres) south of Belfast. History The village of Loughinisland grew up in the townland of Tievenadarragh, beside a lake which has a small island on it. This island was the headquarters of the McCartan clan who were powerful from 11th century to 16th century, ruling over the surrounding territory of Kinelarty. The village is known for its three churches that were built on this island between the 13th and 17th centuries. Ruins of the churches and a cemetery can still be seen. In addition to its parish churches, in 1836 it was recorded that there was a school in Loughinisland. The 1997 Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 111th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The championship began on 11 May 1997 and ended on 28 September 1997. Meath entered the championship as the defending champions; however, they were defeated by Offaly in the Leinster final. On 28 September 1997 Kerry, the most successful county in Gaelic football history, claimed their 31st All-Ireland title - and their first since 1986 - with a 0–13 to 1–7 victory over Mayo. Séamus McCarthy (born 1954) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played at senior level for the Tipperary county team. Born in Bansha, County Tipperary, McCarthy first arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Tipperary minor team in 1972 before later joining the under-21 side in 1974 and 1975. He joined the senior panel during the 1974 championship. McCarthy subsequently became a regular member of the starting fifteen. At club level McCarthy is a three-time championship medallist with Galtee Rovers. McCarthy retired from inter-county football following the conclusion of the 1982 championship. John Evans is a Gaelic football manager. He has managed three senior inter-county teams: Tipperary, Roscommon and Wicklow. Evans was the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship winning manager with Laune Rangers in 1996. Career Evans is from Killorglin, County Kerry. Before taking to inter-county management, he managed his local Laune Rangers team from the 1980s till the 2000s. He led them to the Kerry Championship in 1993 beating Annascaul, 1995 beating East Kerry and made it two in a row in 1996 by overcoming West Kerry. He led the Rangers to Munster Senior Club Football Championships in 1995 beating Cork side Clonakilty and in 1996 beating Tipperary side Moyle Rovers.
