John O. Griffiths
John Oliver Griffiths (14 July 1923 – 13 April 2001) was a British philatelist who was added to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 1987. Griffiths won the Grand Prix d'Honneur plus Large Gold medal at STOCKHOLMIA 74 for his British stamps."The Three Previous Stockholmia World Philatelic Exhibitions" by Bengt Bengtsson, ''Bulletin 1'', STOCKHOLMIA2019, Sweden, 2017, pp. 30-33. He won Large Gold plus Grand Prix d'Honneur at BANGKOK 83 for South Australia and later won gold medals for Leeward Islands in the 1980s. Griffiths married Lynne Griffiths (1923-1990). Philately (; ) is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. Philately involves more than just stamp collecting or the study of postage; it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. For instance, the stamps being studied may be very rare or reside only in museums. Etymology The word "philately" is the English transliteration of the French "", coined by Georges Herpin in 1864. Roll Of Distinguished Philatelists
The Roll of Distinguished Philatelists (RDP) is a Philately, philatelic award of international scale, created by the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain in 1921. The Roll consists of five pieces of parchment to which the signatories add their names. Selection of the signatories Those who have assisted the development of philately through their research, expertise or giving their time can be candidates to sign the Roll if they are sponsored by one of the existing signatories.
