John N. Lotz
John N. Lotz is a former Assistant Adjutant General for Air of the California National Guard. Biography A native of Riverside, California, Lotz graduated from La Habra High School in La Habra, California. He then graduated from California State University, Long Beach and Harvard Business School. Career Lotz originally enlisted in the United States Navy Reserve in 1959. After leaving the Navy Reserve, Lotz enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was commissioned an officer in 1964 and stationed at Truax Field in Madison, Wisconsin. From there, he was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California. In 1974, Lotz was appointed to the California Air National Guard and assigned to the 261st Combat Communications Squadron in Los Angeles, California. He would assume command of the squadron in 1979. California National Guard
The California National Guard is part of the National Guard of the United States, a dual federal-state military reserve force. Meritorious Service Medal (United States)
__NOTOC__ The Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) is a military award presented to members of the United States Armed Forces who distinguished themselves by outstanding meritorious achievement or service to the United States subsequent to January 16, 1969. The MSM was previously awarded as a decoration for achievement during peacetime, but effective September 11, 2001 this decoration may also be bestowed in lieu of the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in a designated combat theater. Armed Forces Reserve Medal
The Armed Forces Reserve Medal (AFRM) is a service medal of the United States Armed Forces that has existed since 1950. The medal recognizes service performed by members of the reserve components and is awarded to both officers and enlisted personnel. The medal is considered a successor award to the Naval Reserve Medal and the Marine Corps Reserve Ribbon, which were discontinued in 1958 and 1967, respectively. The Air and Space Longevity Service Award (ASLSA) is a military award of the United States Air Force and United States Space Force established as the Air Force Longevity Service Award by Air Force General Order 60, on 25 November 1957 by General Thomas D. White, Air Force Chief of Staff. The award was primarily created as an air force equivalent to the service stripes used by other branches of the United States military to denote years of military service. Service Star
A service star is a miniature bronze or silver five-pointed star inch (4.8 mm) in diameter that is authorized to be worn by members of the eight uniformed services of the United States on medals and ribbons to denote an additional award or service period. The service star may also be referred to as a campaign star or battle star depending on which award the star is authorized for and the manner in which the device is used for the award.
