John N. Dennis
John N. Dennis (born February 25, 1933) is an American Republican Party politician and business executive who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1968 to 1974, and again from 1976 to 1978. A graduate of Montclair High School and Lehigh University, he served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. Dennis was an executive in his family business, Annin & Co., one of the nation's largest flagmakers. He was elected to the New Jersey State Assembly in 1967, running in Essex County District 11E. He was the top vote getter in the Republican primary with 7,189 votes, followed by Herbert Rinaldi with 7,066 votes. They defeated Beatrice Carlson of Montclair (5,065) and Joseph Napolitano (4,812). In the general election, Dennis and Rinaldi defeated Democrats Ralph G. Conte and John T. Regan. New Jersey Senate
The New Jersey Senate was established as the upper house of the New Jersey Legislature by the Constitution of 1844, replacing the Legislative Council. There are 40 legislative districts, representing districts with an average population of 232,225 (2020 figure). Each district has one senator and two members of the New Jersey General Assembly, the lower house of the legislature. Prior to the election in which they are chosen, senators must be a minimum of 30 years old and a resident of the state for four years to be eligible to serve in office. From 1844 until 1965 (when the ''Reynolds v. Sims'' US Supreme Court decision mandated all state legislators be elected from districts of roughly equal population), each county was an electoral district electing one senator. Carmen Orechio
Carmen Anthony Orechio (November 4, 1926 – February 26, 2018) was an American politician who served as President of the New Jersey Senate and as Commissioner and Mayor of Nutley, New Jersey. Early life and education Orechio was born in 1926 in Nutley, New Jersey. He graduated from Nutley High School and Rutgers University. During World War II, he served in the United States Army with the European Occupational Forces. Career Orechio was elected to the Nutley Board of Commissioners in 1968. During his tenure as commissioner he served as Director of the Department of Public Safety and as Director of the Department of Public Affairs. He served as Mayor of Nutley three times: 1972–1976, 1980–1984, and 1992–1996. He was the first Italian-American Mayor of Nutley, New Jersey. The New Jersey General Assembly is the lower house of the New Jersey Legislature. Since the election of 1967 (1968 Session), the Assembly has consisted of 80 members. Two members are elected from each of New Jersey's 40 legislative districts for a term of two years, each representing districts with average populations of 232,225 (2020 figures), with deviation in each district not exceeding 3.21% above and below that average. To be eligible to run, a potential candidate must be at least 21 years of age, and must have lived in their district for at least one year prior to the election, and have lived in the state of New Jersey for two years. Carl A. Orechio (September 12, 1914 – December 28, 1991) was an American Republican Party politician, who served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 1972 to 1982. Career Orechio was elected to the State Assembly in 1971, running in Essex County District 11C with the support of the Essex County Republican organization.
