John Munn (Manitoba Politician)
John Alfred Munn (April 13, 1882 — January 25, 1942) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1927 until his death. Munn was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba, the son of John Munn and Catherine Patterson, and was educated at the Ontario Veterinary College and the McKillop Veterinary College of Chicago. He worked in Manitoba as a veterinarian. In 1911, Munn married Hazel Smith. He was mayor of Carman from 1919 to 1921. He served as secretary of the Dufferin Agricultural Society from 1923 to 1939 and was president of the Manitoba Federation of Agriculture in 1939 and 1940, retiring due to poor health. He was first elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1927 provincial election in the constituency of Dufferin. A Progressive, Munn served as a backbench supporter of John Bracken's government. John Munn (shipbuilder)
John Munn (12 March 1788 – 20 March 1859) was a Scottish-born shipbuilder and political figure in Lower Canada. He was born in Irvine, Scotland in 1788, the son of a sailor, also named John Munn, and came to Quebec City in 1801, where he began his career as a shipbuilder. In 1814, he went to Montreal, where he manufactured ships for the government. He set up his own shipbuilding business at Quebec in 1815. Many of the ships that he built were transported to Britain for sale. Munn, well known as a master craftsman, also trained a number of shipbuilders. He also helped found Queen's College at Kingston. In 1837, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada for the Lower Town of Quebec in a by-election held after George Vanfelson resigned his seat. He served on the city council for Quebec from 1840–1842. John Munn (Newfoundland Politician)
John Munn (1807 – September 29, 1879) was a Scottish-born merchant and political figure in Newfoundland. He represented Conception Bay from 1842 to 1848 and Harbour Grace from 1869 to 1873 in the Newfoundland and Labrador House of Assembly as a Conservative. Mann was born at Port Bannatyne near Rothesay in Scotland, the son of Stewart Munn and Isabella Fisher, and came to St. John's in 1825. He worked there as a bookkeeper until 1833, when he moved to Harbour Grace and opened a business with Captain William Punton. The company became involved in the seal trade and shipbuilding. Munn married Naomi Munden in 1838. In the 1870s, Munn's company purchased Thomas Ridley's assets. He helped found the Union Bank and served as a director. He also owned the ''Harbour Grace Standard'' newspaper. Munn was named to the Legislative Council in 1855; he served until 1869. Munn died in England in 1879, in Southport, Lancashire.
