John R
John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. Richbourg's highly stylized approach to on-air presentation of both music and advertising earned him popularity, but it also created identity confusion. John James Joseph Monaghan
John James Joseph Monaghan (May 23, 1856 – January 7, 1935) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Wilmington in Delaware from 1897 to 1925. Biography Early life John Monaghan was born on December 19, 1880, in Sumter, South Carolina, to Thomas and Margaret (née Bogan) Monaghan, both Irish immigrants. He graduated from St. Charles College in Ellicott City, Maryland, in 1876, and then studied theology at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore. Priesthood Returning to South Carolina, Monaghan was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Patrick Neeson Lynch for the Diocese of Charleston on December 19, 1880. He first served as a curate at St. Joseph's Parish and afterwards at St. Patrick's Parish, both in Charleston, South Carolina. Monaghan was appointed pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Greenville, South Carolina, serving there from1882 to 1887. John Joseph Monaghan (21 August 1918 – 3 March 1984) was a world flyweight boxing champion from Belfast. He became famous in the post-war period, eventually rising to become undisputed world champion and a hero to many people in his home city. Boxing career Born in Lancaster Street in North Belfast, Monaghan attended St Patrick's Christian Brothers' School in Donegall St. A noted fighter at boys' level, he entered the paid ranks in his mid-teens. Jack Monaghan
John Monaghan (6 August 1921 – 3 July 2022) was a New Zealand amateur wrestler. He represented his country at the 1950 British Empire Games and the 1954 World Wrestling Championships, and won 10 national wrestling titles. Early life Monaghan was born in Mataura on 6 August 1921, the son of Grace and Richard Monaghan, and grew up in the district. After leaving school, he worked as a delivery boy for a fish and chip shop, as a shepherd, and as a fireman for New Zealand Railways (NZR). Military service In 1940, while employed by NZR in Wellington, Monaghan enlisted for military service. However, his work was deemed essential and his manager would not release him. In 1943, he was allowed to join the Royal New Zealand Navy, and he did his basic training at HMNZS ''Tamaki'' on Motuihe Island.
