John Mickel (politician)
Reginald John Mickel (born August 1953) is an Australian politician. He was the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland and the Labor member for Logan until the 2012 election. He was succeeded by Fiona Simpson as Speaker, as he did not contest the 2012 election. Early life Born in Murgon, Queensland, he went to school at St Laurence's College and later attended the University of Queensland where he studied literature and education. Political career In 1979, he joined the Labor Party and was an adviser to federal MP David Beddall. He was later a senior adviser to Queensland Premier Wayne Goss and to Health Minister (later Premier) Peter Beattie. In 1998, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Queensland as the Labor member for Logan. He was a minister in various portfolios from 2004 to 2009. Wayne Goss
Wayne Keith Goss (26 February 1951 – 10 November 2014) was Premier of Queensland from 7 December 1989 until 19 February 1996, becoming the first Labor Premier of the state in over thirty two years. Prior to entering politics, Goss was a solicitor, and after leaving politics he served as Chairman of the Queensland Art Gallery and Chairman of Deloitte Australia. 2009 Queensland State Election
The 2009 Queensland state election was held on 21 March 2009 to elect all 89 members of the Legislative Assembly, a unicameral parliament. The election saw the incumbent Labor government led by Premier Anna Bligh defeat the Liberal National Party of Queensland led by Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg, and gain a fifth consecutive term in office for her party. Bligh thus became the first female Premier of any Australian State elected in her own right. The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The premier of Queensland is the head of government in the Australian state of Queensland. David Beddall
David Peter Beddall (born 27 November 1948) is a former Australian politician. Beddall was born in Manchester, England and was employed by the Commonwealth Bank and was a self-employed commercial finance consultant before he entered parliament. He was elected as Australian Labor Party member in the Australian House of Representatives for the seat of Fadden at the 1983 election, and then for the seat of Rankin at the 1984 election. In April 1990, he was appointed Minister for Small Business and Customs in the Hawke ministry (Minister for Small Business, Construction and Customs from December 1991). The 2012 Queensland state election was held on 24 March 2012 to elect all 89 members of the Legislative Assembly, a unicameral parliament. The Labor Party (ALP), led by Premier Anna Bligh, was defeated by the opposition Liberal National Party (LNP), led by Campbell Newman.
