John Mellors
John Mellors (15 April 1947 - 1 May 2021) was a former senior Australian public servant. Between 1994 and 1997 he was Secretary of the Department of Administrative Services. Life and career Mellors was born in London, gained a degree in economics and accounting from the University of Bristol in 1968 and held academic positions at UK universities from 1969 to 1973. In 1973 he joined the staff of the European Commission in Brussels before being recruited to the Australian Public Service. He became an Australian citizen in 1978. Mellors was Director-General of the Victorian Department of Planning and Urban Growth between 1988 and 1990, before taking up a position as Executive General Manager in the Corporate Branch of the Department of Administrative Services. Australian Public Service
The Australian Public Service (APS) is the federal civil service of the Commonwealth of Australia responsible for the public administration, public policy, and public services of the departments and executive and statutory agencies of the Government of Australia. Laurie Oakes
Laurie Oakes (born 14 August 1943 in Newcastle, New South Wales) is an Australian retired journalist. He worked in the Canberra Press Gallery from 1969 to 2017, covering the Parliament of Australia and federal elections for print, radio, and television. Early career Oakes was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, the son of Wes and Hazel Oakes. His father worked for BHP as an accountant. When Oakes was six years old, his father was transferred to Cockatoo Island, a small island off the coast of Derby, Western Australia, where there was an iron ore mine. He began his schooling at a one-teacher school with only 20–30 children. Oakes later moved back to New South Wales and attended Lithgow High School. Andrew Podger
Andrew Stuart Podger, (born 6 November 1948) is a retired Australian senior public servant. He is currently Professor of Public Policy at the Australian National University. Early life Podger was born 6 November 1948. Public service career Podger began his Commonwealth Public Service career in 1968 as a Cadet at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. After his time as a statistician he moved to the Social Welfare Commission in 1974 and then to the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in 1975. He was promoted to the Senior Executive Service in the Department of Social Security in 1978, where he stayed until 1982. In 1982 he joined the Department of Finance. In 1990 Podger went on to hold the position of Deputy Secretary in charge of Acquisition and Logistics in the Department of Defence, where he stayed until 1993. Peter Boxall
Peter John Boxall is a former senior Australian public servant and policymaker. Background and early life Peter Boxall was brought up on a farm in Victoria. From year nine, he went to boarding school at Ballarat Grammar. He attained a Master of Economics from the Australian National University in 1973. Career Boxall spent seven years working at the International Monetary Fund in the United States. He then chose to study for his doctorate at the University of Chicago with supervision from Gary Becker, Robert Lucas and Sherwin Rosen. On returning to Australia in 1986, Boxall joined the Department of the Treasury in the Australian Public Service.
