John McMullin (golfer)
John McMullin (born c. 1935) is an American professional golfer who played on the PGA Tour in the 1950s and 1960s. McMullin was born in Richmond, California. He was a pupil of noted black golf instructor Lucius Bateman, whose other students included future PGA Tour winners Don Whitt, Dick Lotz and Tony Lema. McMullin attended Modesto Junior College, where he was a member of the golf team. He was the individual medalist at the Western Intercollegiate Golf Tournament in 1955. McMullin had several top-10 finishes in his PGA Tour career including a win at the 1958 Hesperia Open Invitational and a solo 2nd-place finish at the 1959 Tijuana Open Invitational. His best finish in a major championship was T35 at the 1959 PGA Championship. After his touring days were over, McMullin became the golf course professional at Palo Alto Municipal Golf Course. The Northern California PGA Championship is a golf tournament that is the championship of the Northern California section of the PGA of America. Mark Fry, long-time pro at Sequoyah Country Club in Oakland, California, holds the record for most victories with 10. Gary James Player DMS, OIG (born 1 November 1935) is a South African retired professional golfer who is widely considered to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. During his career, Player won nine major championships on the regular tour and nine major championships on the Champions Tour. At the age of 29, Player won the 1965 U.S. Open and became the only non-American to win all four majors in a career, known as the career Grand Slam. Julius Nicholas Boros (March 3, 1920 – May 28, 1994) was an American professional golfer noted for his effortless-looking swing and strong record on difficult golf courses, particularly at the U.S. Open. Early years Born in Fairfield, Connecticut, Boros was of Hungarian descent, and played varsity baseball in college. The AT&T Byron Nelson is a golf tournament in Texas on the PGA Tour, currently hosted by TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, northeast of Dallas. Held in May, it is one of two PGA Tour stops in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex – which until the 2020-21 PGA Tour, was the only metropolitan area to host two events on separate courses in the area (Las Vegas, Nevada and Savannah, Georgia have since hosted two events on two separate courses).
