John McGrath (footballer, Born 1980)
John Matthew McGrath (born 27 March 1980) is an Irish footballer who plays as a midfielder and is player-manager of Northern Premier League side Mickleover. Club career Born in Limerick, County Limerick, McGrath played local schoolboy football with Templeglantine and Corbally, before joining Belvedere in 1996. He was part of the team that won an unprecedented FAI Youth Cup, Leinster Youths Cup and DDSL U-18 Premier League treble. He joined English Premier League club Aston Villa on 3 September 1999 following a two-week trial. After making only two appearances he went out on loan to Football Conference side Dagenham & Redbridge in November 2002. McGrath was then signed by Doncaster Rovers on 10 July 2003 in time for the start of their first campaign back in the Football League after being promoted from the Football Conference. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. Leagues that use promotion and relegation systems are often called open leagues. In a system of promotion and relegation, the best-ranked team(s) in the lower division are ''promoted'' to the higher division for the next season, and the worst-ranked team(s) in the higher division are ''relegated'' to the lower division for the next season. In some leagues, playoffs or qualifying rounds are also used to determine rankings. This process can continue through several levels of divisions, with teams being exchanged between adjacent divisions. In sports, a loan involves a particular player being able to temporarily play for a club other than the one to which they are currently contracted. Loan deals may last from a few weeks to a full season, sometimes persisting for multiple seasons at a time. A loan fee can be arranged by the parent club as well as them asking to pay a percentage of their wages. Association football Players may be loaned out to other clubs for several reasons.
