John McGrath (Western Australian Politician)
John Edwin McGrath (born 17 June 1947 in Fremantle, Western Australia) is a Western Australian politician and was the Liberal member for the electorate of South Perth in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly since the 2005 election. Before entering Parliament McGrath was a journalist and held several positions including sports editor, chief football writer and bureau chief in Melbourne covering sport for ''The West Australian''. McGrath was elected with a swing of 14.2 points following the retirement of Phillip Pendal and holds the seat by a margin of 5.8 points, he was appointed the opposition spokesperson on Seniors, Racing and Gaming and Liquor licensing in 2005 and in 2008 was appointed as Shadow Minister of Road Safety and Housing and Works. Electoral District Of South Perth
South Perth is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in Western Australia. The district is located in the suburbs immediately south of the Perth CBD. Although occasionally held by an independent, South Perth has typically been a safe Liberal seat. It had never been won by the Labor Party until Geoff Baker won it for the party at the 2021 election. Geography South Perth is made up of affluent waterside areas in Perth's inner south. The district is bounded to the north by the Swan River and to the west and south by the Canning River. Brian Thomas Burke (born 25 February 1947) is an Australian former politician who was the 23rd premier of Western Australia from 25 February 1983 to his resignation on 25 February 1988. He was a member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from 30 March 1973 to 25 February 1988, representing the electoral districts of Balga and Balcatta at various points, and was the leader of the Australian Labor Party in Western Australia from 18 September 1981 to 25 February 1988. Burke studied law at the University of Western Australia for one year before dropping out. During the 1960s and early 1970s, he worked as a journalist for ''The West Australian'' newspaper, 6PM radio station, and Seven News Perth. Phillip Pendal
Phillip George Pendal (4 February 1947 – 3 June 2008) was a Liberal and later Independent Western Australian politician, an opponent of abortion rights, and historian. Early life Born in Bunbury, Western Australia, Phillip Pendal was raised and schooled as a Catholic and his strong Catholic principles continued to influence him for the rest of his life, culminating in him being honoured by the Pope John Paul II with the Holy Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (Cross for the Church and the Pontiff) on 14 April 2005. He was a student at Xavier College in East Victoria Park (now Ursula Frayne Catholic College) in his senior school years. Elections were held in the state of Western Australia on 26 February 2005 to elect all 57 members to the Legislative Assembly and all 34 members to the Legislative Council.
