John McDermid
John Horton McDermid, PC, FRI (born March 17, 1940) is a former Canadian politician. McDermid worked in marketing, public relations and broadcasting before entered politics. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada in the 1979 federal election as the Progressive Conservative Member of Parliament for Brampton—Georgetown outside of Toronto, Ontario. He was re-elected in the 1980, 1984 and 1988 elections. He became a parliamentary secretary when the Tories took power in 1984. From 1988 to 1993, he served in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney as series of junior minister positions: Minister of State for Housing (1988-1989), International Trade (1988-1989), Privatization and Regulatory Affairs (1989-1991), and Finance and Privatization (1991-1993). He left Cabinet with the departure of Mulroney as Prime Minister of Canada in June 1993, and did not run in the 1993 federal election. Electoral record References External links ... 1984 Canadian Federal Election
The 1984 Canadian federal election was held on September 4, 1984, to elect members to the House of Commons of the 33rd Parliament of Canada. In one of the largest landslide victories in Canadian political history, the Progressive Conservative Party (PC Party), led by Brian Mulroney, defeated the incumbent governing Liberal Party led by Prime Minister John Turner. This was the first election since 1958 in which the PC Party won a majority government. Mulroney's victory came as a result of his building of a 'grand coalition' that comprised social conservatives from the West, Red Tories from the East, Quebec nationalists, and fiscal conservatives. The Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) is a museum, art gallery, and archives for the Regional Municipality of Peel and are located in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Previously, it was the Peel Heritage Complex. Its facilities were originally the Peel County Courthouse, Brampton Jail (also known as the Peel County Gaol), a land registry office, and a county administration building. It is opposite Gage Park and Brampton City Hall. In March 2010, the Peel Heritage Complex closed for extensive renovations and expansion. The spaces reopened in 2012, with significantly larger and include more public space. It was originally scheduled to reopen in fall 2011. William Ross Milne
William Ross Milne better known as Ross Milne (born August 27, 1932) is a retired Canadian politician. Background Milne, the son of Alex Milne and Eva Renton, was raised in a political family on a farm in Grey County, Ontario. Agnes Macphail, the first woman elected to Parliament in Canada was a cousin of his father's. At age 15 he got his driver's licence, bought a Model A Ford and won a school bus contract which he maintained through his high school years in Durham and Hanover. Milne attended the University of Guelph (OAC) graduating first in Agricultural Engineering, and later with a master's degree in engineering. After graduation he worked with the Extension branch of the Ontario Ministry of Food and Agriculture designing farm buildings, drainage systems and conservation measures. The 1993 Canadian federal election was held on October 25, 1993, to elect members to the House of Commons of the 35th Parliament of Canada. Considered to be a major political realignment, it was one of the most eventful elections in Canada's history. Two new regionalist parties emerged and the election marked the worst defeat for a governing party at the federal level. In a landslide, the Liberal Party, led by Jean Chrétien, won a majority government. ''The Register-Guard'' is a daily newspaper in the northwestern United States, published in Eugene, Oregon. It was formed in a 1930 merger of two Eugene papers, the ''Eugene Daily Guard'' and the ''Morning Register''. Brian Mulroney
Martin Brian Mulroney ( ; born March 20, 1939) is a Canadian lawyer, businessman, and politician who served as the 18th prime minister of Canada from 1984 to 1993. Born in the eastern Quebec city of Baie-Comeau, Mulroney studied political science and law. He then moved to Montreal and gained prominence as a labour lawyer. After placing third in the 1976 Progressive Conservative leadership election, he was appointed president of the Iron Ore Company of Canada in 1977.
