John Maxwell, 1st Baron Farnham
John Maxwell, 1st Baron Farnham (1687 – 6 August 1759) was an Irish peer and politician. He was the son of the Reverend Robert Maxwell and Anne Stewart, daughter of Colonel George Stewart. His paternal grandfather was Robert Maxwell, Bishop of Kilmore. He was appointed Prothonotary of the Court of Common Pleas (Ireland) and held the office from 1725 until his death. He was a member of parliament (MP) of the Irish House of Commons for County Cavan from 1727 to 1756. He inherited Farnham estate from his cousin in 1737 and was appointed High Sheriff of Cavan for 1739. The latter year he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Farnham, of Farnham in the County of Cavan. Henry Maxwell (bishop)
Henry Maxwell, D.D. (1723–1798) was an Anglican clergyman who served in the Church of Ireland as the Dean of Kilmore, then Bishop of Dromore, and finally Bishop of Meath. Early life and family He was the youngest son of John Maxwell, 1st Baron Farnham and Judith Barry., ''The Province of Ulster'', p. 174. In 1759, he married Margaret Foster, daughter of the Rt. Hon. Anthony Foster, and sister of John Foster, 1st Baron Oriel. Their two sons, John and Henry, succeeded as the 5th and 6th Baron Farnham. Ecclesiastical career He was ordained a priest in the Anglican ministry on 14 February 1748, and three years later instituted the Dean of Kilmore on 28 December 1751. Brinsley Butler, 2nd Earl of Lanesborough, PC (Ire) (4 March 1728 – 24 January 1779), styled The Honourable until 1756 and Lord Newtown-Butler from 1756 to 1768, was an Irish politician and peer. He was the son of Humphrey Butler, 1st Earl of Lanesborough and Mary Berry, daughter of Richard Berry. He succeeded his father as 2nd Earl of Lanesborough in 1768. From 1751 until 1768, he was a Member of Parliament (MP), or 'Knight of the Shire', for Cavan County in the Irish House of Commons, and was High Sheriff of Westmeath in 1763. He was educated at Trinity College, Dublin. As a Freemason, he was Deputy Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ireland from 1753 to 1756, and was elected Grand Master in 1757, a post he held until the next year. Brockhill Newburgh
Colonel Brockhill Newburgh ( – 11 January 1741) was an Irish politician. He was the second son of Thomas Newburgh and his wife Mary, the daughter of Brockhill Taylor, M.P, of Ballyhaise, who had represented Cavan Borough in the Irish House of Commons. He inherited the estate of Ballyhaise in 1697 on the death of his elder brother. He was appointed High Sheriff of Cavan for 1704. From 1715 until 1727, Newburgh sat as Member of Parliament (MP) for Cavan County. He was chairman of the Linen Board. He built Ballyhaise House, and did much to improve the village of Ballyhaise, erecting the first stone bridge there. He married Maria, the daughter of Oliver More of Salestown, Co. The Reverend Henry Maxwell, 6th Baron Farnham (1774 – 19 October 1838) was an Irish peer and Church of Ireland clergyman who reputedly used his prerogatives as landlord to induce his distressed tenants to abandon their Catholic faith and take the Anglican communion. He was the son of Henry Maxwell, Bishop of Meath, and grandson of John Maxwell, 1st Baron Farnham. On his brother's death, he succeeded as 6th Baron Farnham on 20 September 1838, holding the title for just under a month before his own death. John Maxwell-Barry, 5th Baron Farnham PC (Ire) (18 January 1767 – 20 September 1838) was an Irish Representative peer and politician. He was the son of Henry Maxwell, Lord Bishop of Meath, and grandson of John Maxwell, 1st Baron Farnham. He married on 4 July 1789 to Juliana Lucy Annesley (died 10 October 1833), daughter of Arthur Annesley, 1st Earl of Mountnorris, 8th Viscount Valentia. In 1788, Maxwell-Barry stood as Member of Parliament for Cavan County, however, was declared not duly elected. He later represented Doneraile in the Irish House of Commons from 1792 to 1798, and subsequently Newtown Limavady until the Act of Union in 1801.
