John Matthews (Australian Politician)
John Cyril James Matthews (11 February 1928 – 19 August 2019) was an Australian politician. He was a Liberal member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1981 to 1991. Matthews was born in Sydney to Cyril Claude Matthews, a rubber technician, and Helen Cummings. He was educated at private schools Christian Brothers College, Rose Bay; St Stanislaus' College (Bathurst), and then the University of Sydney, where he studied for a Master of Pharmacy 1947–50. He worked as a pharmacist, and married Dympna Guthrie on 11 April 1955 at Bathurst; they would have six children. In 1965 he was elected to Bathurst City Council and was immediately elected mayor; he held both positions until 1976, and also served on Southern Mitchell Count Council 1968–77. In 1969 he established Devro Pty Ltd and Uncle Ben's Pet Foods Bathurst, and in 1970 opened Clyde Industries Ltd. Seering John Matthews OBE was the fifth Bishop of Carpentaria. He was born on 26 March 1900, educated at St John's College, Auckland and Moore Theological College and ordained in 1926. John Matthews (born 8 March 1978) better known by his stage name Ricardo Autobahn is an English producer, songwriter and musician. He is also known in collaborations with Daz Sampson as in Rikki & Daz and the projects like Barndance Boys, Cuban Boys, and his current project Spray. Career Matthews is a member of the band Spray and earlier in the Cuban Boys. The latter was most famous for their UK Christmas hit “ Cognoscenti vs. Intelligentsia”. John Matthews (born 1948) and Caitlín Matthews (born 1952) are English writers. Together, they have written over 150 books and translated into more than thirty languages. Their work also includes Tarot packs, a card-based storytelling system, screenplays, and songs. The Matthews began working in the 1970s while in London. John Matthews CBE (born 4 July 1930) is a British agricultural engineer who was Pro-Chancellor of the University of Luton. Career Agriculture An agricultural engineer, Matthews joined Great Britain's National Institute of Agricultural Engineering (NIAE) in 1959, He was its Director from 1984-1990, during which time it became known as the Agriculture and Food Research Council. John Hobson Matthews (1858–1914) was a Roman Catholic historian, archivist and solicitor. Biography John Hobson Matthews was born in Croydon in 1858, to Emma Hobson from Great Grimsby and his father from St. Ives. He attended schools in Blackheath and Cambridge and worked in Malta for a short period with a shipping firm. Matthews joined the Roman Catholic church in 1877 and became a solicitor in 1889, subsequently working in Cardiff. As a keen linguist, he edited ''Emynau Catholig'' (English: 'Catholic Hymns'), translated ''Ffordd y Groes'' ('The way of the cross') and joined the Welsh Bardic Gorsedd. John Matthews (soda Water Manufacturer)
John Matthews (1808–1870) was an English-born American inventor and soda water manufacturer. He is known as "The Soda Fountain King". Matthews manufactured carbonating machinery and distributed his product through retail stores. The equipment was a lead-lined cast-iron box where carbonic acid gas was formed by mixing sulphuric acid with marble dust. The gas was then purified by passing it through water, and then into a tank partially filled with cool water. The tank was rocked for a quarter to a half hour, until the water was impregnated and bubbly. Matthews created a fountain apparatus that could be positioned on a pharmacist's counter to dispense carbonated drinks, leading to its popularization and rapid growth.
