John Martis
John Martis (born 30 March 1940) is a Scottish former professional footballer who made nearly 500 appearances in the Scottish Football League and was capped once for the Scotland national side. Playing career Martis signed for Motherwell in 1957 from local Junior side Royal Albert and became known as one of the "Ancell Babes" under the tutelage of then manager Bobby Ancell, alongside players such as Pat Quinn and Ian St. John. A solid and uncompromising centre half, he remained at Fir Park for twelve seasons before departing for a brief spell in South Africa with Hellenic FC. On his return to Scotland, he joined East Fife, for whom he played for six years before retiring in 1975. Motherwell
Motherwell ( sco, Mitherwall, gd, Tobar na Màthar) is a town and former burgh in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, south east of Glasgow. It has a population of around 32,120. Historically in the parish of Dalziel and part of Lanarkshire, Motherwell is the headquarters for North Lanarkshire Council. Geographically the River Clyde separates Motherwell from Hamilton to the west whereas the South Calder Water separates Motherwell from Carfin to the north-east and New Stevenston and Bellshill towards the north. Motherwell is also geographically attached to Wishaw and the two towns form a large urban area in North Lanarkshire, with both towns having similar populations and strong community ties.
