John Manuel Vaz
John Manuel Vaz (21 March 1939 - 7 December 2018) was an Indian politician from Goa. He served as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Goa headed by Luizinho Faleiro from 30 November 1998 until his resignation on 3 February 1999. He won the 1994 Goa Legislative Assembly elections from the Mormugao constituency. Vaz was the President of the Mormugao Municipal Council from January to October 1987. Personal life Vaz was born at Nuvem, Salcete on 21 March 1939. Since his family wanted him to become a priest, a young Vaz attended the seminary at Saligao. He left the seminary suddenly as his interest was the family business. He obtained a Matriculation after which he earned a diploma in bakery (food craft). He married Maria Apolonia Leonia Sousa. Goa Rajiv Congress Party
Goa Rajiv Congress Party (GRCP), was a splinter group of Indian National Congress in Goa. It was founded in 1998 by Wilfred de Souza. It formed a coalition state government with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party, with de Souza as Chief Minister. In the split from INC de Souza took with him several local branches of the Congress party and the entire Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (Congress student wing) branches in the state. Ahead of the Goa assembly elections 1999 GRCP launched 14 candidates, out of whom two were elected (Wilfred de Souza and Francis D'Souza). In total the party received 36 570 votes. Shortly after the elections GRCP merged with Nationalist Congress Party. A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) is a representative elected by the voters of an electoral district (constituency) to the legislature of State government in the Indian system of government. From each constituency, the people elect one representative who then becomes a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Each state has between seven and nine MLAs for every Member of Parliament (MP) that it has in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of India's bicameral parliament. There are also members in three unicameral legislatures in Union Territories: the Delhi Legislative Assembly, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and the Puducherry Legislative Assembly. National Highway (India)
The National highways in India are a network of trunk roads owned by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. National highways have flyover access or some controlled-access, where entrance and exit is through the side of the flyover, at each intersection of highways flyovers are provided to bypass the city/town/village traffic and these highways are designed for speed of 100 km/hr. Some national highways have interchanges in between but they don't have total controlled-access throughout the highways. Verna is a village in Salcete, Goa, India, adjacent to the village of Nagoa. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party ( MGP) was Goa's first ruling party after the end of Portuguese rule in Goa in 1961. In the first elections held after the Annexation of Goa by India, it ascended to power in December 1963 and stayed in power till being ousted from power by defections in early 1979. The party has its base amongst non-Brahmin Hindu migrants from Maharashtra and their descendants, a group that made up a large section of the poorer residents in Goa during Portuguese rule in Goa and whose numbers increased after 1961 by mass immigration from Maharashtra at the invitation of MGP politicians.
