John Mansfield (Royal Navy Officer)
Vice Admiral Sir John Maurice Mansfield KCB, DSO, DSC (22 December 1893 – 4 February 1949) was a Royal Navy officer who became Flag Officer Submarines. Naval career Educated at the Royal Naval College, Osborne, and the Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, Mansfield joined the Royal Navy in 1906. After serving in the First World War, he became commanding officer of the cruiser HMS ''Norfolk'' in October 1937 and of the cruiser HMS ''Devonshire'' in May 1939. He saw action during the early stages of Second World War participating in the Norwegian Campaign and evacuating the Norwegian Royal Family and Government officials from Tromsø, Norway on 7 June 1940, two months after Germany had invaded. Easthampstead
Easthampstead is a former village and now a southern suburb of the town of Bracknell in the English county of Berkshire, although the old village can still be easily identified around the Church of St Michael and St Mary Magdalene. This building houses some of the finest stained glass works of Sir Edward Burne-Jones. History In Easthampstead there is evidence of local Bronze Age existence in the form of a large round barrow on the top of Bill Hill. The hill itself is also surrounded by an ancient ditch, which has largely been filled in. Bill Hill now forms part of a park next to Downshire Way and it is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Commodore Submarine Service
Commodore Submarine Service is a post in the Royal Navy which involves command of the Royal Navy Submarine Service. It evolved from the post of Inspecting Captain of Submarines in 1901 and would later evolve to become the post of Flag Officer Submarines in 1944. History In 1904 the Admiralty created the post of ''Inspecting Captain of Submarines'' which lasted until August 1912 when Captain Roger J. B. Keyes was appointed Commodore, Submarine Service. He held that position until February 1919 when the post holder was renamed Chief of the Submarine Service. It was for many years located at HMS ''Dolphin'' in Hampshire.
