John Mair (journalist)
John Mair is an associate senior lecturer in broadcast journalism at the Coventry University Department of Media and Communication. Mair is a former BBC current affairs producer who has also worked for Channel Four and ITV. He helped devise ''Question Time'' and ''Watchdog'' at the BBC . Academic background He has taught at Coventry University since 2005 where he devised the university's best known brand, The Coventry Conversations. He has published five books on journalism and frequently appears in print and broadcast talking about the media. Mair's books include ''Mirage in the Desert: Reporting the Arab Revolutions'', which focuses on coverage of the 2010 Arab Spring, and ''Investigative Journalism: Dead or Alive''. John Major (philosopher)
John Major (or Mair; also known in Latin as ''Joannes Majoris'' and ''Haddingtonus Scotus''; 1467–1550) was a Scottish philosopher, theologian, and historian who was much admired in his day and was an acknowledged influence on all the great thinkers of the time. A renowned teacher, his works were much collected and frequently republished across Europe. His "sane conservatism" and his sceptical, logical approach to the study of texts such as Aristotle or the Bible were less prized in the subsequent age of humanism, when a more committed and linguistic/literary approach prevailed. John Mair (architect)
John Thomas Mair (12 October 1876 – 26 November 1959) was a New Zealand architect. From 1923 until his retirement in 1941 he held the position of Government Architect. Early life and education Mair was born in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand, on 12 October 1876 to Catherine (nee Hamilton) and Hugh Mair. Hugh Mair had started as a carpenter before becoming a building contractor in partnership with his brother, Matthew. They built the water tower, and a number of large buildings. Hugh served as a borough councillor from 1892-1897 and then mayor of Invercargill from 1897–1898. Mair was educated at Southland Boys' High School in Invercargill. Career Mair commenced his architectural training in 1892 with William Sharp, engineer, architect and surveyor to the borough of Invercargill as well as engineer to the Bluff Harbour Board. John Mair (athlete)
John Mair (born 20 November 1963) is a Jamaican former track and field sprinter who competed in the 100 metres and 200 metres. He won several medals with the Jamaican relay team, taking Jamaica's first World Championships relay medal (a bronze) at the 1987 World Championships in Athletics, as well as a bronze medal at the Pan American Games in 1987 and two relay bronze medals at the 1990 Commonwealth Games. John Maire
John Maire (1703–1771) was a leading English Roman Catholic conveyancer. Maire was the son of Thomas Maire of Lartington, Yorkshire, and an elder brother of the Roman Catholic priest William Maire. He was admitted to Gray's Inn in 1727; as a Catholic, Maire could not be called to the bar, and so he built up a conveyancing practice. He married Mary Lawson, who survived him, and had a seat at Lartington Hall.
