John Madden (hurler)
John Madden (born 13 February 1968) is an Irish hurling selector and former player whose championship career with the Tipperary senior team lasted three years from 1989 to 1991. Born in Lorrha, County Tipperary, Madden first appeared at underage levels with the Lorrha–Dorrha club. He subsequently joined the club's senior team and won one North Tipperary championship medal in 1989. Madden made his debut on the inter-county scene at the age of sixteen when he was picked on the Tipperary minor panel, however, he enjoyed little success in this grade. After failing to make the Tipperary under-21 team in 1987, he was added to the panel in 1988 before claiming Munster and All-Ireland medals in the grade in 1989. Madden was added to the Tipperary senior panel in 1989 and won his first All-Ireland medal that year, albeit as a non-playing substitute. Lorrha–Dorrha GAA
Lorrha–Dorrha GAA is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "North Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred on the parish of "Lorrha & Dorrha". The club is most famous for Hurling Team of the Millennium goalkeeper Tony Reddin, who played with the club from 1947 to 1957. Ken Hogan, who is a former manager and goalkeeper of Tipperary GAA, also played with Lorrha as did the heroes of the 1971 All-Ireland Championship team, Liam King and Noel Lane. In more recent times, John Madden was the club's representative on the team which won All-Ireland honours in 1989 and 1991. Also notable is Patrick 'Bonner' Maher (2009–present) who is the only Lorrha player to win both All-Ireland and Munster Medals at Senior, Under-21 and Minor with Tipperary. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1991
The 1991 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 105th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 19 May 1991 and ended on 1 September 1991. Cork were the defending champions but were defeated by Tipperary in the Munster final replay. Westmeath qualified for the All-Ireland quarter-final as winners of the B championship. On 1 September 1991, Tipperary won the championship following a 1–16 to 0–15 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 24th All-Ireland title, their second in three championship seasons. Tipperary's Michael Cleary was the championship's top scorer with 3-35. Galway Senior Hurling Championship
The Galway Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Brooks Galway Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Galway County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1887 for the top hurling teams in the county of Galway in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months with the county final currently being played at Pearse Stadium in November. Initially played as a knock-out competition, the championship currently consists of a group stage followed by a knock-out series of games. All-Ireland Senior B Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Senior B Hurling Championship was an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association between 1974 and 2004 for the so-called 'weaker' hurling teams in Ireland. The teams now play in the Joe McDonagh Cup (Tier 2 of the All Ireland Championship). The series of games began every year immediately after the completion of the National Hurling League with the All-Ireland final being played in June or July, initially in Croke Park, Dublin but later in provincial venues around the country and in United Kingdom, Britain. The championship was open to all hurling teams who did not take part in the proper All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship.
