John Mackey (born October 1, 1973) is an American composer of contemporary classical music, with an emphasis on music for wind band, as well as orchestra. For several years, he focused on music for modern dance and ballet. Biography John Mackey was born in New Philadelphia, Ohio and grew up in Westerville, Ohio, where he attended Westerville South High School. Though musicians themselves, Mackey's parents did not provide him with music lessons, and he never formally studied an instrument. His grandfather, however, taught him to read music and introduced him to digital music notation. John Mackey (hurler)
John Mackey (28 August 1913 – 3 May 1989) was an Irish hurler who played as a right wing-forward at senior level for the Limerick county team. Mackey is regarded as one of Limerick's all-time greatest players. He made his first appearance for the team as a substitute during the 1932 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1948 championship. During that time he won three All-Ireland medals, five Munster medals and five National League medals. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Mackey won a record-equaling fifteen county hurling championship and five county football championship medals with Ahane. Mackey hailed from a hurling 'dynasty'. John Mackey (politician)
Sir John Emanuel Mackey (7 August 1863 – 6 April 1924) was an Australian politician. Mackey was born in Sandhurst to horse dealer David Mackey and Mary Ann Moore. He was largely self-educated, with only a brief and late formal education. He worked at a printery in Bendigo and then as a compositor for Mason, Firth and McCutcheon, a Melbourne law firm. He studied law at the University of Melbourne, receiving a Bachelor of Law and a Master of Arts. In 1890 he was called to the bar, and he was also a lecturer at Melbourne University. In 1902 he married Stella Watson Bates, with whom he had five children. Mackey was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly in 1902 for Gippsland West, and soon entered the ministry as a minister without portfolio in 1904. From 1906 he was Minister of Lands; he was also briefly Chief Secretary and Minister of Labour from 1906 to 1907 before taking up these roles again in 1908. John Mackey (11 January 1918 – 20 January 2014''NZ Herald'', 21 January 2014, pg. A26.) was the ninth Bishop of Auckland, New Zealand (1974–1983). Born in Bray, County Wicklow in Ireland, he came at the age of six to New Zealand with his widowed mother to live with Father John O'Byrne, who was his mother's brother and parish priest of Epsom. He received his secondary education at Sacred Heart College, Auckland and studied for the priesthood at New Zealand’s National Seminary, Holy Cross College, Mosgiel. He was ordained a priest on 23 November 1941 in Auckland, and received episcopal consecration in Rome from Pope Paul VI on 30 June 1974. John Bernard "Jack" Mackey, VC (16 May 1922 – 12 May 1945) was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British Commonwealth forces. Mackey was one of twenty Australians to receive the award for actions during the Second World War, receiving his award posthumously for leading an attack on against a strongly defended Japanese position during the Battle of Tarakan in May 1945. He was 22 and serving as a corporal in the 2/3rd Pioneer Battalion at the time of his death. John "Tyler" Mackey (23 August 1882 – 2 December 1962) was an Irish hurler and Labour Party politician. Mackey played as a midfielder for the Limerick senior team. He also represented the Labour party on Limerick County Council, having been elected in the Castleconnell electoral area. Mackey made his first appearance for the team during the 1901 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1917 championship.
