John MacLellan
John James MacLellan (July 26, 1878 – September 17, 1955) was a provincial politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1930 to 1935 sitting with the United Farmers caucus in government. During his time in office he briefly served as a cabinet minister in the government of Premier Richard Reid from 1934 to 1935. Political career MacLellan ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature in the 1930 Alberta general election as a United Farmers candidate in the electoral district of Taber. He won a closely contested two way race over an independent candidate to hold the district for his party. MacLellan was promoted to the Executive Council of Alberta by Premier Richard Reid on July 14, 1934 to run the Public Works portfolio. Westville, Nova Scotia
Westville is a town in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is located immediately west of Stellarton and about four kilometres southwest of New Glasgow, the major town in the area. History Originally called Acadian Village, the name Westville was chosen because the community was west of the Albion Mines (now Stellarton). Westville has a long history of coal mining dating back to 1864 when coal was first discovered. The opening of the Acadia Mine followed in 1866. Westville, along with Stellarton, was once home to a thriving coal mining industry. Richard Gavin "Dick" Reid (17 January 1879 – 17 October 1980) was a Canadian politician who served as the sixth premier of Alberta from 1934 to 1935. He was the last member of the United Farmers of Alberta (UFA) to hold the office, and that party's defeat at the hands of the upstart Social Credit League in the 1935 election made him the shortest serving premier to that point in Alberta's history. Born near Glasgow, Scotland, Reid worked a number of jobs as a young adult—including wholesaler, army medic (during the Second Boer War), farmhand, lumberjack and dentist—and immigrated to Canada in 1903.
